I would imagine, whenever your hands stop, the forward inertia on the divot would cause the chunk not it your hand to rip off????

Kinda like fishing and trying to get that spoon close to the grass line from far away.

If you don't fish, sorry for the analogy. If you do, I think it makes sense.
