iron game help

Hi, I'm new here to this site.

All I can say is thank you for all the good info that is available here in the forum. My concern is that i've been playing golf for the last 7 years— and because of my never ending desire to be good at this game—I always tinker with my swing.

The problem is that I'm hitting the ball really bad right now because of all the experiments that i have been doing, and I feel that im so confused with my swing.

My weakness is really my iron game, because for some reason I cannot hit it from the middle of the fairway properly. I can not make decent contact with the ball. It's either little fat or thin with lack of distance.

I have no problems with the driver and woods.

At the driving range when i practice my irons, I hit it good and make solid contact with the ball and hit it far, but when it comes to the actual game, I can not hit it properly and make all kinds of errors.

My friends tell me that I am a range player because I'm good when im hitting it at the range.

Because of this i cannot attain my full potential and enjoy the game as well.

I am a 10 handicap golfer and my ball flight usually is a fade and sometimes pull hooks.any advice?

thanks!

btw just bought "Flipper" and "Never Slice Again," and hope they can help me cure my faults.

You sound very typical.

You come over the top because you "have to"—your clubface does not rotate properly.

NSA will help a bunch. Then flipper will help even more.

That is my recommended order. ;)

As Brian has already said: you've got your own answer right there. Watch NSA. It will then make my response very clear.

FIX THE CLUBFACE, and then the game gets so much easier. (Note: I said 'easier' not easy!)

follow up question!!!

what controls the backswing?is it the left arm or right or both?what is the first move in the downswing,is it the arms which is to swing down or right shoulder titlting down together with the arms?sory for the follow up!one more thing, how come that the over the top as you say only happens when im using irons but not with the woods or driver?last but not the least,my friend who is a pro tells me that in my downswing,i raise my body which causes me to hit my irons thin or sometimes heavy!he tells me that i should focus on rotating my shoulder or should i say my body to the left during the downswing so that i could achieve solid contact.he also mentioned that sometimes i have the habit of staying back during the downswing which causes me to mishit my irons!any analysis or solutions to my problem?btw, before anything else,i would like to say thank you mr. manzella!!!really love the way you approach and teach this game!!!hope you could help more people on this forum!!!more power to you!!!
