Ok, so I am fresh off a great week of ball striking and scoring on some very difficult courses from our annual golf trip. I come home and hit a half bucket of shanks at the range and promptly cancel my weekend tee times.
Now, I know what causes shanks, and I know enough about my swing to know why I do it, but come on! I absolutely, dominated a championship layout on the golf trip on back to back days and now I am getting under it so bad I am hitting shanks! And, I am not hitting draws or hooks!
At the range I took some time to experiment a little. I strengthened my grip noticeably to the point where the club was closed at setup. I was even hitting blocks and block fades with that setup. This tells me that I am under rotating the left arm something fierce. I also load quite a bit with a step on the right, step on the left pivot and I am guessing that ‘stepping on the left’ really torques the shaft and opens up the hosel into my downswing. At the range, I almost can’t twist enough to lag the sweetspot on some of these shots. The worst of this is with 8-SW.
I have resisted the technical and mechanical golf swing info for years but maybe I am missing something that is obvious to others?
Just when you think you have this game figured out!
Any thoughts?
