Adam Scott -- On the Level

Brian Manzella said:
A modern, flexible example of many of Brian Manzella's pivot teaching preferences.

In the first pic, Adam sets up NICELY behind the ball, not trapping himself by setting up too far forward.

In the second pivot, he rotates around a point between his shoulders and actually, his whole spine.

Look at the nice (green triangle) "look of lean" at the top.

This is the opposite of left side "sag."

He tilts his axis well on the downswing as well.

Now my turn (pun intended!) ...

Putting Adam Scott on a level lie helps a lot.

Is Adam swinging around his (pivoting) Stationary Head?

Or not?

You be the judge.

Sharp

I never noticed the slope on the first series, what a difference.

The level pic of Scott at the top is wicked  One of the best I've ever seen.

az,

Please take Adam off his uphill lie...

I don't think it was an uphill lie, I think the camera was not quite flat. Anyway, it is irrelevant to whether his head moves, only to which direction it moves in. If he (or the camera) is tilted, it will move a little bit down relative to the viewer. His head is clearly to the LEFT of where it started.

Of course it wasn't an uphill lie. You are almost certainly right: The camera wasn't leveled properly. That's the whole point: Any arbitrary lines drawn to show relationships with the horizontal plane now become in themselves a distortion of the truth.

I used an overlay so there is no need for lines. Clearly his head moves to the left. If you rotate the photo a few degrees this does not change.

Not only that but the camera is not truly face on.

Head swivels and moves slightly. No one advocates absolute stillness (I hope).

The real question was posted in #29.

Well, at least I never use drawings.

Good ole Golf Digest, they can't even get the camera straight.

Well, if we are going to use my posed backswing to compare to golfers, this one is playing better now anyway.

Brian~

Do you think about putting your right shoulder on plane or turning the shoulders on a plane? And, do you consider your shoulder turn Rotated or Flat?

Thanks

O.K.....i'll judge....i think he's pivoting around a point between his shoulders.....

you may call it a "(pivoting) stationary head".....but i think it is another great example of what brian is trying to explain.....now it may not be as big a move as luke donald's, but it certainly is NOT a stationary head...if it was, why isn't the line cutting through his nose at the top of his swing?

now, you're argument will be that the head is stationary as it pivots as if it's on a tripod....i say that's bunk.......if you look at the axis of a tripod, it is located in the center.....a person's spine is not in the center of his neck...it's in the back of his neck

Mike man....to me, it seems if you turn your head your nose moves to the side...(kinda a mini version of turning around your spine I guess actually.....spine is in the back of your head/back of your torso)...

I agree tho that this isn't a bad pivot at all....his head doesn't move LOTS (but it ain't "PRECISELY in between the feet either".....

....and he does lean left.....

...and in the original GD pic (the one Brian originally drew lines on) his head is even further back in his stance....

Now....I think it's fair to say the slope prolly would have an effect on it......but you don't know for sure....

We need more pictures I think.

Great post.

Besides, I don't want my stationary body part pivoting. If the pivot center pivots, sounds as though we must look lower for the actual pivot center.

Hmmm, now that sounds interesting!
