New season, 1st match and we won. My daughter is still #2 on the team and she told me she needs more distance with her driver so she can improver her G.I.R. I told her if u can get 200yds off the tee with the driver, she can, and put the ball in the fairway, working on that, and your longest par 4 hole is 368yd you would have 168yds. for your approach and I know you have a club for that distance, she does. I said improve your accuracy off the tee and from the fairway and get real good at up and downs you can be #1.

Go Saxons, 2nd match of the season and we won! 2 and 0. We have a new team member brand new to golf and I was voluntered by my daughter to help her with her swing and the coach seconed it, so now I will put all I have learned here and help her. Really looking forward to it.

Cool stuff, love reading these updates. Last spring my daughter made the boys Middle School team. It was really cool for her to come and ask me how she can get better. As a coach, I have tried hard to be hands off, because I can be a bit demanding (just ask my players) but it has gone really well.

I would say Im doing ok as an instructor. Since I dont have a title from the PGA or other instructional society/organization I kinda get looked at as a non instructor/teacher which I use to my advantage.
Example one of the school golfers was really having trouble with her driver, topping, snap hooks, snap slices just plain bad. So she asked me what she was doing wrong. I didnt say anything about what was wrong.
I did ask her to just lower her hands at adress a little bit, that was all.
The other players were looking/listening one player said" thats not gonna help, shes just too rigid". Well she hit a nice fade about 190/200yds. she was sooo happy to be able to hit her driver.
What Im learning in helping young golfers is they need a swing now to get them around the course. It will not look like a swing from the pga manual, but then what they bring isnt exctly a PGA swing, but it will get them around the course decently.
I leave my daughters swing alone until she asks for help, she tries to figuire things out for herself and only when she hits a roadblock does she ask for help and then when I help her and its something easy she just looks at me like, really thats it, yup thats it.
I told her many times she is a shot creator and to get out of the mindset of if I have x amount of yards then I use this club. The lie has a lot to do with what kind of shot one can get away with,also the wind force, wind direction, location of the pin, bunkers, hazards.
This season she started to use different clubs on approach shots and it has yielded good result for her, even on some par 3 tee shots she has used a longer club to 3/4 swing a shot onto the green shot creator!

I worked with the new golf team member today. She is new I mean new new, worked on her grip, stance, ball placement, pivot. At the end of our time she thanked me for helping her. Watching her work really hard and to see her make decent contact on the ball and smile is what its about, good times!

3 and 0 this team is good or maybe the competition isnt so good, a little of both, but still 3 and 0. My daughter shot a personal best but she lost the #2 position. She is not very happy about not being #2, I told her this should motivate her and take that back by just being more consistant fairway and greens. Sound easy but it isnt especially when they get 0 time to warm up before a match and she lost her swing with the driver, range time sounds like an easy fix, oh wait nothing is really easy with my daughter.

Another win, 4 and 0. The newest team member did ok meaning we used her score instead of the another players score who shot higher. Gonna work on full swing and medium pitches tonmorrow with my daughter and our newest team member.

Wow 5 and 0 we may go all the way, better not run out of gas at the end! No match today just range time, I got there late, but I was able to help one of the golfers, she was slicing her 5 wood real bad! had to give her the strongest medicine I know to cure that demon slice, yup you guessed it, TWIST AWAY! her next ball hooked low left, I said now u just need to not add so much twist and you will hit it straighter, sure enough next down the middle, next just a teeny weeny fade next straight. Ladies and gentlemens another demon slice has been exorcised by the twist away which is holy and sanctified.

hp12c, I don't post much on the forum, but I have to say that I really enjoy hearing your updates. I've taught a number of golf clinics throughout the years and I definitely know the feeling of accomplishment when whoever you're helping finally puts the pieces together. Keep the updates coming!

Hi twballer22 thank you for the kind words. When I joined this forum I thought all I learned and continue to learn was gonna be just for me. But the golf coach liked how quickly I was able to get my daugter able to get around the course in a short period of time and one thing led to another next thing I know I get volunterred to help with chipping and that goes off well so Im an unofficial coach/instructor/mentor/helper/ and basically doing anything to help those lady golfers that need help on some part of the game. I really like it especially having to use different ways to help the golfer do that which will help. Right now our newest golfer is getting a full dose of building blocks but as with anything new its gonna take time the good thing is she is a freshman so she will just get better.

Todays match was non leauge, in windy conditions and Ive noticed when its a non leauge match my golfer doesnt do well. She looked like she was just going through the motions and she was spraying it all over the yard missing it 2 ways even, yuck!
We still won by quite a bit. The other team was just not making decent contact at all and all were demon slicers, I wanted to just let them about twist away but Im not allowed to talk to the golfers on either team while they are in a match.
Tomorrow will be leauge so my little golfer has to do what she know how, hit that little draw in the fairway!
We had a visitor from last years team, she is playing at a junior college golf team, I spoke to her and asked her how she striking the ball today, in her words irons good, driver no good and 3 wood so so.
I watched her on the last tee were she hit 2 balls,practice round for her, wood and driver, as I watched her practice swing I told our coach that ball is going right sure enough she sliced it almost ob right. Next ball driver, yup uknow what happens when u see 1 ball go mean right or left the next when is not going in the same direction as the previous and sure enough this one went ob left bad! From what I remember from last year she used to smoke the driver and 3 wood and her irons were so so.
But she could score, I asked her what happenned, surprise surprise she took and is taking lesson, from what she described she is learning to lag which will increase her distance so she can score better. Granted I dont know what she is actually working on and I know to try to put something in one swing can be difficult all I could say it just keep at it. thats it for now.

6 and 0 and it wasnt even close. We have almost won leauge we just need 1 more win and the next team is the one team which can shoot pretty close to us. I also had the chance to play on the course and my daughter shot a lower score than I, my excuse is I havent playe in a awhile and she plays almost every day and Im working on something and it wasnt clicking, thats my excuse and Im sticking to it.. She is so happy she beat me and really I am too.

Oh boy my golfer wants to work on her swing and all aspects of the game on the off season. the season ends at the end of this month and she will probably want a little time off,not too much.
Im excited and nervous, we will change this and that, add this take that away and basically make her better all around.
Im watching Brians vids reading the threads I remembered really helped me this going to be fun!
I will post as we progress/regress and if she lets me maybe even post up a before and after video no gurantees though.

Yup still undefeated, we have 1 more match this thursday we will be numero 1 undefeated or numero 2. We have beat this team before but one of our players is shooting a bit higher than her average. We have broke down her rounds and her driver is balloning her score too much and the coach and I have told her before to not use the driver if she is not able to control it.She is long enough with a 5 wood I put together for her. So on thursday if on the 1st hole she slices it she is not allowed to use it. The team needs her lower score and a banner in the gym with undefeated will look real good! My daughter finally started to use the chipping technique I have showed her several times, she told me it finally cliqued and felt right! you know I have to remmember she has a lot on her plate golf, jrotc she is CSM command sargent major!, her honor classes, theater, homework, there is just not enough hours in the day!

Oh yeah! we won league undefeated! Only 4 strokes difference thats how close it was.
I was sooo nervous and my daughter was in the last group by herself so she had to shoot her usual score to be the champs and she did.
On her last hole a par 3 she put her tee shot in the green side bunker and she got out in 1 and ended up with a bogie.
So its off to CIF team and individual finals its gonna be tough due to the competion is from all the high schools and some girls shoot under par regularly, but all we can do is play our best!
I need to scout the next venue , its a private C.C. called westhills. I hear its a tough course with uneven fairway lies tough greens and narrow fairways!

Well its over for my golfer she missed the cut by 2 strokes, almost broke my heart to see her so dissapointed. I let her know she did her best and today it was 2 strokes short and look on the bright side we have more time to get you even better for next season. That didnt go over to well right there but later she said me being there with her helped her a lot, made me so happy to hear her say that. We have work to do and cant start soon enough,practice and play is the plan.

We have some work to do and it will make a big difference next season if she commits to working on her favorite part ,putting, chipping. Over the season she morphed the chipping technique I showed her into some stiffed straight arms move that was just not working but she would not change, she semmed to not want to try/do something different cause it would bump up her score.
