That is a really cool view. Funny how it almost seems like the racket is acting on it's own eh?

Whilst his forearm and wrist (grip, you said) were stable, his grip was loose and the handle of the raquet rotated in his hand.

No that was clearly an open to close release followed by another open to close and another open to close and another ... :D

has your club handle ever rotated in your hands? why?

Don't ever recall it. However, the club shaft will not have resisted my many off centre hits despite my death grip.

Interesting also to see the amount of distortion displayed by the raquet itself in this off centre hit. Surprising that there was so much.

I would bet there is even distortion of the racket or a golf club on a visually "centered hit". The "sweetspot" is much smaller than the ball and even a millimeter off the sweetspot would look centered but is not. The point being that regardless of a "centered" hit or an off centered hit, the racket or clubface are acting independent of the hands due to the collision with the ball.

Oh I feel this thread is gonna get good! I better pay close attention cause I may learn something, unless u guys start using all that scientific language where I will have to look up them words in some meaning word book.

How stupid do you have to be to think the ball itself doesn't jar the face, period? I really think these super high speed cameras, not to mention slow motion in general, have done more harm to sports in general than good. Dealing with mechanics of course, not things like instant replays. Big gateway to overteaching and looking for something that really doesn't matter one iota, nor can you control.

And by the way, the ball had left the face before any "closing" could spin it. If it didn't, please, point it out.

Burner, I think the distortion is even more than you think because no way did that handle twist in his hand.

anyone know whether tennis players have similar discussions to ours about d-plane, spin axis tilt and compression?

and, as a change from "Woods vers Nicklaus", does anyone think that Woods is a better athlete than Federer?

I don't know about your first part (my guess would be no) but my answer to your second part is no.

I know a tennis coach who has coached some players who played Grand Slam tournaments and he now coaches golf. He is clueless at teaching golf to the hackers he teaches because he thinks that it's all about fitness, practice and feel. Technique is in his opinion individual and inherant, and cannot be coached.

hey wulsy - if his students are fit enough to run round the course, and sufficiently careless of technique that they don't take 6 practice swings, then the pace of play should at least be good.
