Chipping procedure

Last time out duffed chips and short pitches cost me at least 5 strokes[B)]

Today I watched the Ben Doyle tape with special focus on this issue. He says that you can start from impact hands or classic address with or without forward press. This season I've had some succes with the latter. (I changed from the Pelz method with the ball way back in the stance).
I've found that chipping with the ball in a more forward position and starting from classic address hand position gives me much nicer contact with the ball, but I have a tendency to duff them once in a while. (The Pelz method is kind of idiot safe).

What procedure do you guys use or teach?

When you chip the Pelz way with the ball way back in the stance you shift the plane base line to the right and have to manipulate your hands and arms to hit a straight shot. Stan Utley teaches a more normal ball position that conforms with plane. This is on the lines of what Mr Doyle teaches and is much better IMO.

Hue - I left the pelz stuff b/c of what you say. Too much unpredictable sidespin on the ball too.

But what adress hand position do you use (teach) and find most consistent?? I see Brian is using a classic midbody address position with forward press for pitches.

My ball position is similar to that of short iron shot relative to the lead foot. For short chips I have the hands a little ahead of the ball at address . For longer pitches I set up with midbody hands.

On a chip...as always...you have options.

I can chip much like the Pitch Video referenced above and I can do it with sort-of a mini-sequenced release and I can do it with next-to-a-zero-pivot and right arm thrust.

Believe it or not, my best chipping was with a CLOSED stance and (floating) right arm thrust.
