Driver Lie Angle Question.........

Hey guys....I have three Taylor Made Burner driver heads that came straight off the Tour van. All three heads are in the 62.5* lie angle range. However, I have noticed most retail drivers from various companies are in the 58* range. Why are retail driver heads built to such flatter lie angles than tour heads? I have my own theory....just want to hear other ideas.

Tour players are svelte and taller requiring a more upright driver lie .... while the avg. rec golfer is obese and swings flatter to get around their blown belly ... soooo obvious.

Also, you will statistically find that tour players have longer arms than normal, while rec players arms are short and stubby .. it makes a difference.

First I would ask you how you know these came from the Tour Van. "Tour" and "Tour Van" are very over-used, suspect, hype terms. A lot slimy sellers of counterfeit clubs around.

I doubt that Taylormade invests in special molds to make upright driver heads (big bucks). You can't bend a Driver hosel very much without breaking it.

The lie angle of a Driver is not going have that much influence anyway. Plenty of guys on tour addressing the Driver with the heel soled. Matter of fact, I think Brian teaches that. I know Mike Jacobs has a video talking about Driver VSP being ideal at 46-47 degrees.

Wishon talks about OEM drivers having 60 degree lie angles and states that his Drivers
are 58. Shaft droop on longer Drivers is his explanation for needing higher lie angles than in the past.

Good point, doofus .. :D

I think that's incorrect. Apparently, there are special molds made for tour heads, and for a certain player if required. I will bet you have to be a large name to get that done.
