"topspin torque" = gears do torque...!!!

How are the pictures misleading? If you're not sure about how final spin occurs you should ask Tuxen because he has to deal with it. As for ball spin causes being indeterminate, you could be right but then you should tell us why rather than floating unfounded speculation. Try again.

No, I don't imply that there is topspin in the first place ...only you mistakenly do.

As for bulge and roll, I misspoke myself and should have typed "impede" .. not "impart". Thanks for the correction.

Where am I 'factually incorrect' in what I have posted... and your unsubtantiated accusations are not valid judgments. Try again.

Correct, and I have corrected my post by changing "impart" to "impede". I misspoke myself. No harm to my messages in any case.

Carry on ....

"I mispoke myself". Love it Steve especially with the 25th anniversary of Watergate coming up (you would have had to watch the Watergate hearings to understand). Ranks right up there with "wardrobe malfunction".

Look at the pictures ... showing sidespin gear effect and topspin/underspin gear effect .... as the club torques the ball on off-center impact.

It makes you look bad.

Where did this picture come from, just out of curiosity? Humor us.
You have surely realized that what you refer to as additional top spin (in terms of forces and vectors not yet measured or completely understood prior to the resultant spin axis) they are calling less backspin. Pretty simple really. The defense rests...

If you want to source the horizontal and vertical gear effect picture you should use "command + i" on your keyboard and then go to the "media" tab and then scroll down to that picture address. You'll be surprised.

If you look carefully at all the pictures, it calls it "slice spin" and "hook spin" for the horizontal gear effect... both "side spins" according to the direction of the gearing on the ball.

As for vertical gear effect on the ball you get "less backspin" when you have a "topspin torquing effect" on the ball. e.g. 3500 rpm normal backspin - 500 rpm topspin effect = 3000 rpm resultant (less) backspin.

Hope that helps.....

Anyone else get ridiculous personal messages like this from SteveT?

"Will you now return to the "Dyamic" thread and concede your position... or will I have to call you out and shame you..???"

Tutelman had some good information, but certainly not SteveT. Stevie might have been close, but there isn't any such concept as pre-final spin and final spin as he was advocating let alone "topsin" that reduces counter backspin. I'll admit he was close in the concepts, but that only counts in horsehoes and certainly not for someone with an alleged scientific mind.

cwd law.... who calls himself a "lawyer" in his forum profile is just a sore loser because he lost at his own courtroom tussle with me.

He asked for evidence, I gave him the "Tutelman" evidence, and then he vanished for several days. I just sent him a "Personal Message" and now he cries foul under the threat of being called out and within minutes of my PM. Look at him nitpick and squirm now... all because he doesn't understand the concepts and language of Newtonian Physics that an engineer appreciates....!!!

Talk about dirty tactics ... that only a lawyer would do .... and never trust a lawyer with personal messages .... :mad:

(p.s. Looks like cwd law has recanted and removed some of his accusatory message above... while I stand for everything I posted. Lawyers trying to be engineers...lol)

You provided no evidence for your pre-final spin and final spin theory. Furthermore, you provided no evidence topsin was countering backspin. You need to improve your lexicon and take a basic course in logic and rhetoric. Don't be mad that someone showed your childish message. You must be related to the Joker!!! I was never out to "win" anything in this thread. If you were good for you and I wish you the best on your off center hits.

Sooo what kind of evidence would satisfy your high standards for technical validity? Since you read, studied and concluded that Mangum's picture and Tutelman's article on Gear Effect did not meet your standards for "evidence", what do you demand of me now?

How about this:

Centered hit = 3500 rpm
Vertical hit = 3000 rpm
Counterspin = 500 rpm

Backspin - anti-backspin (aka topspin) component = final spin

I hope that's not too post hoc ergo propter hoc for you... but some things are only between the golf ball and God ...!!!!

Your deductive reasoning isn't sufficient evidence of topsin or your pre-final spin and final spin theory. Keep working on your theories, maybe they'll pan out, but using deductive reasoning hasn't been man's strong suit. Of course, you're different. You're a modernist and don't need to bother with epistemology. You fit in better with Jeffy. All heresy has some half truth, that's why heresies don't fade away so easily.

When I look at the ocean I see a horizontal horizon, not a curved horizon. Thus, the world is flat! Such deductive reasoning ruled the world for thousands of years. How could the world be round? My senses can't and deductive reasoning can't be wrong. They just can't. :mad:

^^^What happens when a lawyer tries to play golf and contemplate Newtonian Physics.... a void occurs.

How about this:

Centered hit = 3500 rpm
Vertical hit = 3000 rpm
Counterspin = 500 rpm

Backspin - anti-backspin (aka topspin) component = final spin

a vertical hit has less backspin than a centered hit but you absolutely CANNOT say that there was backspin - topspin = final spin because the centered hit NEVER happened for that shot. The vertical hit did happen and it produced a certain amount of BACKSPIN. We all understand your point Steve, but terms like 'additional topspin' are clearly misleading.
