As you apply torque, via the properly directed thrust of your swing the transfer of kinetic energy will occur automatically. You don’t consciously decelerate, you consciously apply thrust via your pressure points.

tobell: Can one practice to develop this 'disconnect' swing without a ball, or do you need to actually 'hit' balls? I know things must be VERY precise as it's only happened a couple of times to me. But I do know that feeling and would recognize it if it happened again. Is the 'disconnect' the same thing that's referred to as effortless power?

Sorry for the incessant questions. Like peeling an onion. Knowledge begats more questions.......

Liftoff,

Brian mentioned in a previous post something about "shakin off the sugar", as if you had powered sugar on your arms and wanted to shake it off. Never saw the particular video where he mentions/demos this idea but I think the image is great. Brian's videos would be a great place to start improving sans ball. Understanding cause and effect can go a long way in your development. Brian's got a ton of great info available on this site; however, in the end you have to use the info to guide your personal discovery in the libratory a.k.a. the range. The more you understand precisely what you’re trying to accomplish the less often you actually need the range, however for most of us it takes a considerable about of time and effort to reach that depth of understanding, for a fortunate deft handed few it comes quite naturally.
