extension in the follow through

howdy!

having problems maintaning the "V" (arms, club, shoulders) in the follow through. About waist high in the follow through (maybe sooner) the club wants to fold/recock. It looks really weird especially compared to any model/pro golf swing. Any tips? I know the standard your slowing down through impact response, but I honestly don't feel like thats what I am doing.

Only happens with driver through 6 iron, shorter irons are fine. Thats probably the most frustrating part about it

Think flexibility. You can be inflexible at any age. If you are intending to emulate, say Geoff Ogilvy, Sean O-Hair, or any of the other flat bellies, and physically can't do it, then I wouldn't spend a lot of time worrying about it.

I guarantee that, at 35 I could do it. At 64 it ain't gonna happen, too thick!

I dont know, man. Alot of top players have the club re-hinging by the time its waist high. Are you sure that you're not cherry picking certain swings that fit what you like to see? Anyway to post up your swing?

Does the grip end feel like it's jerking up and causing the flip/hinge? Could be the result of a chicken-wing left arm.

Most Modern Power players have extension post impact?? Correct. Why is this? What players/patterns is this not good for and why?

it doesn't feel like it's jerking up, I think both arms are extended just the club has already re-hinged. Maybe I am not open enough at impact. Will try to get some footage asap. I don't think its a flip either....about two frames after impact as when it happens.

jrose,
Is there something in your ball flight that you think may be related to this?

Lots of great strikers have soft left wrists with re-hinge almost immediately past impact (Couples, Singh, Hogan on certain shots). Unless its a flip its really nothing to worry about, especially if the ball flight isnt an issue. Some people in the know have even suggested that lots of extension past impact can be a power drain (hands working further away from the center)

Pingman re-hinges right after;)

I definately hit it on the high side. Seems like I am losing about 10-15 yards of carry vs when I don't feel like I am doing this.

Maybe this isn't the problem.

rehinging just past impact adds speed because the sh's-arms-hands and thus handle are slowing down to allow release...dumping shaft kick and clubhead speed onto the ball...remember brian's analogy of pushing a grocery cart...you run ..then stop and push to get max speed....kinetic sequencing

Don't mean to hijack this thread, but after seeing my swing on video for the first time recently, this is exactly what's happening in my follow through. Any suggestions for fixing this? (I have COFF, and NSA, if certain concepts apply.)

If you do as you say and the ball doesnt hook, you have another problem.

Like me when I was hopelessly underplane and sliding my 1980's knees and hips and head past the ball trying to find the fairway with my driver swing!

Most Tour players have extension after impact, regardless if they are a power player or not. Great example is Zach Johnson who certainly isn't a power player, but he has about as much extension as you can get past impact.
