Fit swing to clubs or clubs to swing. How do you know which to do?

What compensations could a player employ to counteract a club that was too upright or flat?

Possible compensations for clubs too upright - Aim right, hang on or no release, paths way to the right, weak grip and open club face. Compensations for too flat - Aim left, over rotate, paths across line strong grips and shut club face.

Dan, the fact that you have stance adjustment problems after 2 weeks
of not playing is not unusual. I play a lot and even with that my first several
warm up balls can be truly ugly.

In my opinion, this length and lie stuff is not in concrete. However, adaptation
to flatter or higher lie angles get's is easier as your skill level increases.

For example, I'm no scratch golfer, but I have played for a long time and hit it pretty good for
an old, tall guy with a belly (78 - 82 generally). For the vast majority of that time, I played standard length and 2 degrees upright. About 2 years ago I went to 1/2 over (38.5 five iron) and 2 degrees up. I had those irons when I had my Brian lesson.

Then I decided to experiment (It's part of fun). Picked up a set of Titleist 735's on e-Bay in titleist standard length, lie, and loft for a $200. I adapted, and played this season with those clubs. It helped me to shallow out the downswing and I really believe my accuracy is better with the standard lengths. I have taken the 1/2 Titleist 695CB's out for a side by side comparison. They just feel too long and too upright. Additionally, back in the 70's and 80's a 5 iron was something like 37 or 37 1/2 with a flatter standard lie and back then I would have never
considered anything as long a 38 inches!

Adding length really screws with the swingweight. The +1/2 set comes in at D5. + 1 inch will really be heavy. Of course, as strong as you are, that may be good. One of the guys in my Seniors League is about 6' 9" and could easily be 280+. 64 years old, played briefly in the NBA, and just strong as hell.
He's not a great golfer, but off the tee can launch it out to 300. Direction is an issue, but power is not. He's got the jumbo grips and I think longer than standard lengths.

Your comment about having difficulty getting the correct stance, to me, might imply that 1 inch over could be too long. If you find yourself gripping down the shaft to get comfortable, then it's a possibility. Also I notice your stance is extremely narrow. Widening your stance is worthy of consideration. I'm laughing to myself as I just recalled my DVD from my Michael Jacobs lesson. He's saying wider stance, wider. Then I watch myself waggling and each time taking a slightly narrower stance. Change is really difficult to ingrain.

Dan doesn't care about what happened to you in the 1970s , and anybody who would pick up a set of clubs off ebay can't be serious about golf.

Everything you say is about yourself and then suggesting Dan use you as a model for his golfswing. Are you serious or just ignorant ??!!!

Stop telling us stories about your golf lessons like an old geezer with nothing much to offer. And don't offer Dan your opinion about lie angles with sweeping generalizations that are nonsensical.

"Dan doesn't care about what happened to you in the 1970s , and anybody who would pick up a set of clubs off ebay can't be serious about golf." How do you know what Dan cares about? Serious about golf. Less than I used to be, but I'm certain I can beat you like a drum, and that's if I only played irons.

Everything you say is about yourself and then suggesting Dan use you as a model for his golfswing. Are you serious or just ignorant ??!!! I never made any such suggestion.

Please don't tell me what to do. Feel free to continue insulting me. I'm kind of getting into it.

Don't think of the truth as an insult ... you, footwedge and greenfree really enjoyed your personal attacks mocking me, and now I'm reading what you post and I'm just revealing the truth about your ignorance. LOL

I appreciate all the positive input fellas. Thanks for taking the time to drop me a line. Much to think about here and it is nice to have some opinions other than my own.
