For those of you struggling with Twistaway

I've read several posts of people saying they can't "hold the twistaway" on the downswing. Well, I was struggling with the same thing, except I hit the occasional snap hook. The key for me and my son has been, to make sure you are hinging the left hand correctly. Remember the left hand just hinges up and down and does not bend (flip).

Try a slight twistaway and don't try to "hold" it, just unhinge the left wrist properly and angle is held on it's own.

Could you expand on this? I understand the left wrist hinges and doesn't bend, but how do you unhinge it on the downswing while using the "twistaway? Thanks.

I had the same type of problem when I first started NSA. For me, the key was trying to keep twisting on the way down, all the way to the swivel. I couldn't just "hold it." I think the hardest thing to do during a golf swing is trying not to do something.

jlgenson, for me, I twistaway on the backswing with the right hand(right handed golfer), then on the downswing I uncock the left hand hard(ie: push the left thumb down toward the ground.

That action keeps me from even thinking about trying to hold the twistaway.

I wouldn't try to hold it through muscular effort....................

The idea is to keep your wrists as a loose, free hinge.

You drag everything down with your pivot......................to a spot WHEREUPON everything releases. Where depends on the golfer (i.e. Jason Zuback vs. Sergio Garcia to cover both extremes) and the shot.

"Wallop it with your pivot."

"Hit the box."

"Swing your arms from the shoulder sockets." (loose shoulders)

"Drop and pivot."

(Confessions Of A Former Flipper video is a GREAT companion for NSA)

I agree with Birdie man. Once you've done twistaway on the backswing everthing is set. Turn and uncock the left wrist correctly and everything will work out.
