Linebacker? nahhh

Faldo is the the 2nd best grinder/ course manager of all time.

Great swing sequence. I love how he loads and unloads.

Looks like an orthodox swing pattern that ANYONE could learn.

Something to do with the camera...

Linebacker--say what you will, I have NEVER seen a shaft STRESSED like THAT!!!

I am not sure that this is not an artefact of the way the camera records the images rathet than real shaft bend...

can't remember the details of this but i am sure that it is not real!

People, it's a "camera trick" caused by the shutter as it moves across the film due to the high speed of his swing and the relatively slow movement of the camera shutter.

Basically, the shutter is moving vertically (top to bottom) across the frame. So as it moves downward, his swing is continuing. So the club appears to be bent forward because that's where the clubhead/shaft is when the shutter exposes that part of the film. Make sense?

TexasAg--thanks for the explanation. Although I'm not entirely convinced--check out the 2 frames before the frame in question, and the 1 frame after. There's a TREMENDOUS amount of stress on the shaft.

was that a shank with the iron? btw it seems to me that his head moves forward on that particular downswing, robbing him of distance! but he never was long anyway.

The club as explained appears to bend due to shutter speed of the camera. Impossible for steel to bend like that. Even a long drive guy couldn't bend it like that. Faldo imo hardly stresses the club at all.

Thanks shortgamer! Do you mind putting up the other frames around that one to further show the shaft deflection? I'd appreciate it.

I don't know about all this, I have a picture of a friend, great golfer, and it shows this same bend with a steel shafted driver. Always did wonder about that picture

birdie, I see what you mean looking @ that 5th picture in the face-on sequence.

I hope someone like Brian, Tom, Michael, or Jim can come in and comment--that would give me confirmation.
