being fat and hitting the ball fat

Trying to avoid making a 'real swing.'

At impact move your rear end as far LEFT and far AROUND as possible.

Thanks for this. Does this also apply to a hitting motion?

Pushing shots right. Push-fade/slice more apparent the longer the iron.

Obviously the clubface is open at impact and swing is inside-out, but why and how do I go about fixing it?

Shanks

I have to chime in here. I submit the most UNDERstated reason for the shanks is a subtle ballward move (perpendicular to the target line) of the body near the top of the backswing. Without a compensation movement on the downswing moving the body back away from the ball, the hosel becomes in-line with the ball. There are more popular theories espoused and threads dedicated to this subject. But that's my two cents.

Since finding TGM my ballstriking is getting so good.... its almost annoying seeing shots sizzle off into the sunset... what would be the one piece of commonly taught junk that would put me back in the category of hack in pronto time...lol

Swing fault (or manifestation of another): Running out of right arm to soon. In other words my right arm is straight before impact not after like I know it should be. Anyone? Matthew, I noticed on your swing sequence you have plenty of right arm left and it is on plane. Care to take a stab at how you are able to do this?

Work on getting your trail shoulder low and working downplane. In Brian's Do it right video he has a drill where you hold the grip with the left hand and down the shaft close to the club head with the right hand. You make a backstroke, bump left with hips in the downstroke and bring all of you to the inside aft quadrant of the ball. This will get your trail shoulder low and get you into a better impact position. With the trail shoulder low at impact the distance between it and the ground is less so you must have more right arm bend. I use a plane board to train the right forearm to be on plane going through the strike.

Dr_J,

Learn to fall onto your left foot and get everything past the ball except your right shoulder and right foot before the shaft gets to horizontal on the downswing. You'll have plenty of right arm left.

mizuno, I guess meaning past the ball you mean by turning left? Or are you suggesting a full body lateral move? Thanks
