I think Trackman helped him learn how much left(er) he had to swing in order to keep his ball flight pretty repeatable. I haven't seen his ball flight in person, but have seen him hit a few high straight fairway woods; so I think he's aware enough of his swing to keep it under control.

The Furyk comparison was in the context of competitive tenacity and a self-confidence that ignores well meaning attempts to "fix" his swing e.g. bowed left wrist etc.

I agree that Furyk has a "quieter" clubface. I think the way G-mac releases to the right might work nicely for an postive attack angle and more bang for his buck.

I feel the same way about Rickie Fowler. He has the "flashiest" clubface around it seems. A one day hot and the next day cold kind of player. He surprised me in two ways this past season 1) He did not win one of the "lesser" tour events 2) He played more consistently than I thought he would.

Very true. But he can't even get to the dance if he doesn't strike the ball quite well, particularly at the US Open. You have to strike the ball well at the US Open, you just can't putt it great and hit it so-so.

And he's known as a good ballstriker. And like I've said a few times now, my dislike for his swing has *nothing* to do with the bowed left wrist. I don't see that as a problem at all.

Well the U.S.Open is only one tournament and he has already won that, so i don't understand where your coming from, what your implying can happen to anyone, it's all "if" this or "if" that. Basically, you just don't like his swing.

I think R3J made a valid comment about the "rate of closure" of his clubface...that he may experience intermittent attacks of the "lefts." A guy like Mickelson with a flashy-faced driver swing has the distance that mitigates (to a degree) the negative elements of his inconsistency...unless you need to miss a hospitality tent on the 72nd hole of the US Open of course! Just my sense of what R3J is saying.

R3J, how do you determine his clubface rate of closure and why do you think a high rate of closure can make someone susceptible to ballstriking issues?

Why is it assumed that if one is not top 10 tour long, they are simply "hot" with the putter or are going to have a a lot to overcome?

287 isn't short and is above middle of the pack, tour wise. If you look at the top of long guys on tour only cabrera had won anything of note, recently.

If you hit it 285 or more, that is PLENTY of length to get it done. The only time I believe length is an issue is if you can't hit it 275. If that is the case, one would really have to pick their spots. Since 90% of the tour hits it that far it is easy to see why anyone can win any week.

Distance is an advantage, but the results in majors contradict that notion.
