Hogan's swing speed

When Tiger was with Titleist (steel shaft 9* 975D/Professional ball) they had him at 118-120 club head (180 ball) but his launch angle at 10-12 was higher than average at the time. When he switched to Nike and a solid ball there were reports of + 10 yds signaling the demise of the Professional. At one time Mark McGwire had the highest club head speed TaylorMade had tested at 122 although Titleist had some real high numbers for Zuback.

Those swingspeeds sound low. Would a steel shaft driver take that much off.....

...vs. a longer graphite shafted one?

Bubba, Homes and Villegas as three of the longer have reported clubhead speeds of 126, 126 and 119 and ball speeds as 194, 182, 172 respectively....can't recall Tiger's numbers since he went to the longer graphite.

Thx DOC. Those ballspeeds are weird considering the swingspeeds though. Something weird there.

And swingspeed-wise I still gotta think Bubba and JB especially can get even higher if they really let loose.

Reviewing Power Golf relative to "...on the lawn" thread and found a chart of what Hogan said was his regular/max/min for the bag. He had the driver at 265/300/235 and 5 iron at 155/180/145. He also mentions longer shafts benefiting the shorter player and 44" drivers. We know from his Apex Line that he favored longer shafts in the irons.

BTW birdie_man, the Maple Leaf is the official gold coin of Canada.
