How can I aim a putter that far off

Puttmad......may I ask if you prefer to keep your dominate eye in relation to the ball at address (e.g. directly over it). Also, do you use a heel weighted putter or a center shafted. New Years goal make 90% of putts inside of 10 ft.....or puttmad!

Thanks!

would you aim a gun 1-2 ft in front to hit that bird, or aim at a spot 1-2 ft in front of you to make that free throw

If the rim is set at ground level...and I'm shooting hookshots...while staring at the ground...I might :D

And if the gun has a sightline or a scope, I'm definitely using that. :p

I say, do it if it works for you.

I say if you'd really like to be a better putter, you'd better start targeting that hole for touch and aim, statistically speaking, the numbers would agree :)

I wasn't aware we were discussing your tendancies/accuracy...

0.5 degree open/closed with the face from 6 feet means you're on the right/left edge of the hole.

So accurate setup doesn't help accurate impact, which is what i thought was being discussed?....

And I'm not 0.5 degrees out, I am 0.1 degree...

I have my eys directly above the ball...I don't worry about eye dominance, it's not neccessary the way I putt....

Here are my "statistics". I say if it worked for Jack, it just might work for you.

"In some ways the most interesting part of Shannon's whole putting philosophy is his distinction between linear and nonlinear putters. Linear putters, including Jack Nicklaus, Greg Norman and Nick Faldo, tend to be analytic, right-brain types who in general feel comfortable with structure and routine. On the green, they visualize in straight lines and, in reading a putt, will pick out a spot to roll the ball over and seek to start their putt out in a straight line over that spot. Nonlinear putters, such as Tiger Woods, Fred Couples and Phil Mickelson, are less structured in their routines (they respond more to how they are feeling at the moment). When they read a putt, they see it as a curved line finishing in the cup and trust their touch and feel to get the ball rolling on the right line."

Sure, but it this the most effective way to do it is the question posed and just becuase jack or whomever did it, doesn't mean it is

I never said it was the best way for everyone...it was a suggestion made to the original poster...
Oh, and if you are going to trust everything to feel, make sure you have oodles of time to spend on the practice green......

I agree...good setup helps. I think we just disagree on the method for targeting/aim...that's all.

BTW, I wasn't implying you were 0.5 degrees out.

Soon enough you'll have your detailed information, however, your post for "oodles of practice" is for TOUCH, you dont need alot of practice to aim...I'm buried under feet of snow but i can pick up my and KNOW I aim without putting why? cz I got me a putter that I know I can :)

I have been keeping an eye on this thread for a couple of weeks now so I felt it time to chime in. IMO you have all been on the right path discussing dominant eye and aiming to a spot 2 feet in front of you which are both key. Some simple advice that seems to have been overlooked is after you read the break of the putt with your dominant eye, point the logo of the golf ball in the direction of the break at a point at the hole or as recommended 2 feet in front of you. I like the logo idea (all golf balls are placing arrows or logos on them) because it is your opportunity to aim from behind the ball not at a 90 degree angle. Once you are convinced the logo is aimed properly its a matter of you walking in and lining up the putter and your body to the logo. For me it has caused me to only think about speed because I know I am lined up properly.

Hope that helps.

Good point about aiming the ball/putter two feet in front. Seems much easier to do. Since I have to practice indoors (MN), I try to follow the line all the way back to the ball and pick out a larger spot ( I forget where it is if its too small). Generally it helps.........tried Puttmads website rolling a ball to the target with different stances, I suck! Gonna try and master that .......see if it coralates to better putting.
