I Learned The Hard Way..........

This is pretty bad. Although, if it matters, I know that the instructor being referred to now uses Trackman and I would guess (dont know 100%) that he is now aware of the "new ball flight laws". One other top teacher (not a real big name, but in the top 10 in GD) has come out and openly stated that Trackman has completely altered how he teaches ball flight. I have a video of him from about 5 years ago explaining the "old ball flight laws", and now I know first hand he is "in the know". As for Mr. Harmon, if I had to bet, I would bet that he does not know what we know about ball flight, certainly not what Brian knows.

Hey Daniel....the statement he made about path is bad....but not a killer. When he, a doctor, said that a golf ball flies with topspin....thats the deal breaker. A 9th grade high school physics student knows that is a fallacy. How the 2000 National Teacher of the Year ever decided that a LOFTED club produces topspin is way beyond me.

As for Harmon and his "school"...path is still being taught to this day. I know a current student so I have factual evidence. Sad huh???

Bmanz....you and I have spoken on the phone a few times so you know that I also know exactly where the ball starts. When Mike and Andy made the dvd's and said the ball starts on the face...I think they said that for simplicity and to make things as uncomplicated as possible. I believe that if you are talking to John Q. everyday golfer...and you tell him the ball starts appx. 87% of where the face is aiming...I believe you will lose him. Sure there are some guys that will understand those numbers, but the masses wont get it in my opinion. I know for a fact that Andy knows exactly precisely where the ball starts as you do....but tried to keep it simple for the masses.

Simplicity by omission confuses more golfers than you may think.

You really think that?

I mentioned this weekend to someone that they were flipping their wrist and the left wrist needs to stay flat and that they were completely throwing away their left arm lever doing that..........I got the strangest "i like to keep it simple stupid" look as they proceeded to throw a club after every flubbed chip or chunked wedge. I agree that golf is very complex but 90% of people dont want to hear that the golf ball moves 87% or 75% or whatever if you factor in a 5 degree downward attack with a clubface of 23 degrees of loft..........The point stated on the DVD's was very clear and that was the club does not start on the path and its all about face angle in relation to the path.

Handicap average hasnt gone down forever. Mass instruction goes out the way to be as simple as possible. How has that worked out? Telling your friend he's throwing the left arm lever is telling, not teaching.

Kevin I agree that sometimes omission can confuse...but not in this particular situation. If Mike and Andy would've released dvds and made refernce to D plane....the vectors that comprise D plane...and the fact that the ball will start off on a line in that plane...approximately 87% in the direction of the top vector....I think lots of people would have tossed them in the trash. Just my opinion.

Kevin some of us know that mass instruction...ie Golf Digest, Golf Magazine, Golf Channel....is pure dogsh*$. If true quality information is being presented, then oftentimes it only takes a tiny bit to see amazing improvements. It comes down to a case by case situation. Agree?

You just lobbed Manzella a watermelon to smack out of the park but I get your point. Just disagree. You dont have to sound like a scientist to engage a casual golfer in something complex. You just have to know how to explain/teach it to them in their terms.

I figured Manz would like this one...lol. At least we can agree to disagree..........

Here are the photos. As i said he is ranked #15 in the world per Golf Digest. He was the 2000 PGA National Teacher of the Year. He is a doctor. Lastly...he said that a draw has topspin....yes....topspin. Take a look and enjoy..........

Now Brian.....be honest. The fact that he said a draw has TOPSPIN and will hit the green with FORWARD spin....is that the most preposterous thing you have ever heard in golf instruction in your entire career???

Not the most ridiculous, but in the top 20.

The last 3 words of your last sentence is pretty much it.

Check the science.

Tall,

I remember you, nice guy on the phone.

Do you know if any of the S&T clan is coming to the Anti-Summit to verify their science?

HI Brian.....you were extremely cordial on the phone as well. I have not asked if anyone will be at the summit....I shall get on that right now. Is it in Scottsdale???

Would you please entertain me with what you consider to be #1? I know you have said that keeping weight left to control lowpoint is ridiculous in your opinion. I am sincererly curious what would be numero uno.

I have NEVER said weight left was a "ridiculous" way to control low point, I said that saying it was THE BEST WAY was the biggest lie I ever heard.

The most ridiculous I ever heard....

Fix the path of a slicer first.

I think of weight like 50/50 or slightly more on the left foot at the point of weight transfer towards the target with everything but the driver, is that unusual?

I think neutral I guess more than extreme one way or another.
