Ideas on the release

I have Brian's release video and since recovering from a mild herniation of my L5S1 (no surgery just PT thankfully) have been able to practice a little using the coupling point concept. Let me just say that I hit some of the best drives of my life Thursday. I set up w/ some axis tilt, made a decent turn, did the out toss back and away from the target line, then just felt like I was kinda throwing the club back up the plane w/ a no roll feeling. Much easier on my back compared to more rotary patterns.

While I did hit a few fat long irons, I also happened to hit the best 5 iron Ive hit in ages, probably 190 yards, slight draw, and freaking effortless.

I have 2 questions, 1) any tips to help w/ fatting the longer irons and 2) any suggestions that might help w/ pulling the short irons? Maybe work on tumbling down to a more verticle left arm for better path?

I saw where some bloke had some crap to say online about the "death of the toss out" apparently had an axe to grind w/ Brian for some reason, but any way are you guys still using the out toss if needed, and what is the karate chop?

thanks,

Fan

Fats and pulle need more of your out toss version and more back and down hand path. Counter intuitive, I know. But the opposite (out hand path) will make the long irons and fairway woods back up underneath (fat) and you'll over cover the short irons (pull).

With the info from Michael Jacobs, I have also found that getting the arms going sooner (back and down) at the start of the down swing has made fat shots very rare for me now. When the shoulders drag the arms seems to be when I hit fatsos.

Thanks I'll work on those things the next time
I'm out...Kevin your posts are a very

That's funny. I thought Brian and Michaels videos are very helpful supplements to my posts:). Either way, good to hear you're having success.

Each one has a little different way of explaining the same things which also helps my understanding too. Many light bulbs going off the last few months and it's greatly appreciated.

I'm still working on it, but basically the best players have the arms moving at the same rate as the torso at the beginning of and in the first part of the downswing. I have to actively move the arms while still having my back turned at the start of the downswing or they get tugged out by my torso turn real quick. If you can do it with a counterfall and not tug, then that's good too.

Yea I'm an over the top rt shoulder thrower so getting the arms to quit going at the
ball and incorporating some tumble is something I'll be focusing
on. Enjoy your NFL Sunday gentlemen...

I do the same thing, but I think the torso(right shoulder) turning is the main reason for the over the top in my swing. If I actively get the arms going back and down(I emphasize down) early, then the torso turn has less of a tugging affect.

Somewhere I have a dtl series of Hogan
where his arms are clearly moving behind
him and torso has just barely started turning back
toward the target...
