Is drinking beer legal in a tournament?

Not to start any arguments but as far as cheating, how does this differ significantly from smoking (its supposed to relax those who smoke) or Advil - after all some use alcohol "to feel no pain" :)
I really don't play in much anymore tournaments but I've wondered if my taking Coreg for my heart is "cheating" since it is a beta-blocker?

Is smoking allowed on PGA?

Don't know if its allowed or not. If it is, its probably frowned on.
I seem to recall a couple of guys smoking during a recent golf telecast but with my memory, I could be completely wrong.

Beta blockers are banned according to the WADA web site. I was curious earlier so I checked it out. I'm a musician and many of my friends take them. I tried it one time before a solo performance and it was a weird feeling that I didn't like. I've trained myself to welcome and enjoy the nervous feelings (only with music performance:eek: ). I bet you could get some sort of waiver though for the beta blockers though, I think Shaun Micheel got a waiver for testosterone for a medical condition.

As far as I know smoking is allowed....I remember people talking about Angel Cabrera smoking his way to his U.S. Open win and how he shouldn't be allowed. No one said anything about John Daly during his 2 majors though....

It beats me how drinking can be considered cheating. In fact, it beats me how drinking can be construed as "performance enhancing" - legal or otherwise. I'd never drink and golf - not because it's illegal or immoral, but because I'd whiff. And I'd need to fry some eggs at the turn.

most people play better after alcohol.....why? no tension.

The "bar par" guy I play with is very analytical and fearful. He drinks and gets the perfect amount of IDC (I don't care) and putts with much more aggression and does not try to guide anything.

Dude is first to hit. Dude hits shot on green and moves quickly to green. Dude is 30 to 40 yards ahead of everyone in group or maybe everyone in group is helping another playing partner look for ball. Dude had hit his shot to 15 feet. Dude bends over like he is marking his ball and in one motion flicks a PENNY to 8 feet and picks up his ball. Everyone can make more 8 foot putts than 15 foot putts, so that's how it makes you score better.
It's hard to believe people do that. If you throw your marker 7 feet closer to the hole you will most likley miss the putt due to guilt. If I see a ball mark on the way to mark my ball I have to fix it or I will miss the putt. I actually try not to look for them for this reason. If I moved my marker 1" closer I would probably miss it. Unless I was playing with one of my buddies that was pissing my off then it's ok.

I completely agree. Hell, even when I catch a break I feel guilty and it messes with me. I could not imagine how people cheat and feel ok to write that score down.

The trick is to hit that sweet spot where you are uninhibited and relaxed but still have full control of your actions.Never used it in golf but works great in night clubs.LOL

Its really an interesting topic..i love to drink beer, but still i think it may create disturbance...and may result in one or another way..
