Understood.... just wanted to make sure to clarfiy so people aren't trying to drive the club in the ground in front of their right foot. ;)

It would be nice if you could discuss aiming points perhaps... or go into more detail re: inside back corner and how it relates to this article.

ED...you see anyone posting because 'they are sticking the club in the ground'??

That's because it is TWO forces...the pivot takes care of what you maight worry about.

Aiming point is a future article.

Does the downward force apply for all clubs, including the driver? I thought for the driver you need to try and launch it higher for optimimum distance which wouldn't require a downward blow.

I'm not 'worried' about it... just trying to understand 'where' YOU are suggesting people focus the 'downward' force. You are telling folks 'not to worry' about the forward motion, and to drive the club down.... and the question for you to clarify is down to WHERE, exactly. Inside corner? Aim point (which is down 'plane', but NOT STRAIGHT DOWN as you are suggesting, unless you are suggesting a 'very' steep plane/angle of attack).

edit: how does your view differ from the 'ring the bell/pull the rope' image? (one of Sneads main keys) I don't disagree that the 'hands' should go more 'down', but focusing on the 'clubhead' going 'down' isn't good. The pump drill is a good one for getting the 'hands' up/down move.

Related to this move a bit.... what do you think of these:

I notice Ben is on the list.... A pretty rock solid set of aids IMO, although I haven't seen them in action yet.

How about, no matter how you drive it, it moves in a circle?

Sorry Brian for the minor interruption. Please continue.[B)]:)[:p]

Have a Happy and Safe Thanksgiving all!!!

those pics: an excellent article now made even better. You've packed a lot in there. Of the things you mentioned, I have done the forward and upward forces at times. Now I just try to smack the ball from the top and the force direction seems to be downward.

And I never really understood the importance of the skipping a stone thought till your photos - and in particular your adding the wrong spine action with photos was great.

So thank you very much.

excellent article, excellent pics as usual.
This whole topic brings a BIG question....its about the terms, Hands controled pivot, or Pivot controlled hands.
Seems you are describing pivot controlled hands, i was under the impression that hands controled pivot was moving the hands, and letting the pivot support that movement, and under the impression pivot controled hands was just work the pivot and let it take your hands to a certain place, am i right or wrong?

The article with pictures is terrific and certainly unique.
Now all I need is the setup article and Spring to arrive!!!
Thanks.

"The second reason you need the rotating ‘around-ward’ force is for speed. Simply, the faster you unwind (RPM’s) the faster the clubhead will go. "

At the Open I watched a lot of players. Tiger does not lag the club as much as many players but he turns faster than the other guys. What do you need to do training wise to increase the RPM's of your swing? Thanks.

"Never EVER move your hands WITH your hands...
You hands just give ORDERS..."

I like to feel like I am starting down by dropping my right forearm/elbow down in front of me and using that to aim my hands at a particular loacation.
this ok?
