Looks contrived as heck...(now with a Manzella answer)

The issue is his needing to go thru these contortions to fix a game that was once the best of all time. Six years of parallel lines and over-rotating the left arm and club has really got him messed up. These drills may be necessary to get him back, but you would think that he would watch that 2000 golf swing and simply try to get back to it. Maybe that is what Foley is working towards.

Easier said than done.

I think we've all had those periods of time where we struck the ball really well and our swing looked really good, too. Then over time we 'lose' that swing and you try to get back to it and it's really hard and your friends tell you that 'you just simply need to go back to that old swing.'

If only it was that easy.

Watching him on the range for an hour in Norton through the bag he was impressive. He was not missing and long. He really looked like he was ready to win. Why can't he take it to the course?

I thought that Foley said that the 2000 swing with Harmon caused him the knee problems and he couldn't hit it solid with Haney's swing. If Foley has an ego, which he probably does to take on Tiger, he would want Tiger to have the Foley swing, whatever that is.

We all know drills are over exaggerations so it is tough to tell what he is trying to do. There is also the feel vs real so who knows.

I think the next year is going to be interesting as far as Tiger is concerned. If he goes another year without a major the chase to beat Jack's record looks tougher than ever.

To me it seems like he gets on the course and tries to absolutely smash every tee shot, on the range he's much smoother and makes a less violent pass at it.

Brian told me something very very important when i started teaching and it was something like this, "Jimmy anything can work on the range, ANYTHING. Very few of those things will work on the course and only 1 or 2 will work during a tournament round."

Truer words have never been spoken!

Wow. He is going to be worthless for the Ryder Cup. You see the rehersal after the drive? He wants his upper body a foot forward of the ball at impact? The world may very well see the death of SnT if this keeps up.

Are you serious with "He is going to be worthless for the Ryder Cup.""He wants his upper body a foot forward of the ball at impact?"....

Bang on me all you want, but I see 0 reason someone should be rehearsing that move. If you can practice it, you can do it.... if he does that, watch out low and right.

I will bang on you, I dont think you have any reson to bash on what they are working on, one because you arnt there, two you havent even spent a day with foley or mike and andy to crtique their teachings...they are on tour and your teaching old people...

what you do and what it feels like you do are almost always two completely different things... you rehearse to get the feeling, he obviously didn't make that move when he hit the ball.

The drills he is doing appears contrived but the swing looks better than the Haney pattern.

There is nothing wrong with a centered pivot but harder to do with a wide stance which Tiger has.

He no longer over rotates his flying wedge. His swing plane is back closer to his 2000 swing.

I think he's on the right path.I doubt he will eventually look like the SnT model as Foley appears to teach a watered down version.

So, teaching on tour is the barometer for quality golf instruction? Not sure that is fair. We would all love to teach tour pros, its easy. But can they ( you ) fix old people?

You're right, I'm not there. I wasn't alive during the civil war, I wasn't there when they produced "When Harry met Sally", and I wasn't around Microsoft when Bill Gates developed Vista. So I can't have an opinion about those things either?

I'm not critiquing "their teachings" as a whole. I'm critiquing this position. One of the great things I learned form Manuel de la Torre is that you DON'T have to teach exaggeration. Just teach them what is right. If you teach them to exaggerate, eventually THEY WILL.

That is soooo funny. Yes everyone, please do look at my swing. Those terrible 315 yard drives that I can turn any direction I want. Those 6 irons that I blast 185 yards and end up within 20 feet of the hole 80% of the time on.

Just terrible.
