Method teacher Haney really fixed Barkley

OMG, when that video was starting I was like,

"Who in their right mind would be so close to Charles Barkley when he hits a golf ball?" That guy deserved to have been hit. What an idiot! Hell, any amateur can sometimes stray 1 off the tee. I would never position myself like that.

Not everyone on the planet knows about CB's struggles. I wouldn't stand anywhere on the target side of him, but I wouldn't say that guy deserved to be hit. Could've be killed.

Agreed.

It's truly a testament to his love for the game that he continues to put himself into situations where he will be hitting the ball in front of large groups of people. If I had that (I just refer to it as "that" because I don't know what it is), I'd either be playing by myself or not at all. With determination like that, you can only hope that he gets it done one day.

It seems surprising to me that the general consensus is that his problem is physical. It's clear to me that it isn't. This "whatever it is" will never go away unless he allows himself to believe that not doing it will create better results than doing it. It is all in his head and no amount of swing correction will make it go away for a long period of time.

As long as he has free will he will make a choice on each and every downswing to stop and try and readjust or let it go. Only after he climbs this hurdle will he make any real substantive change.

I think you're correct and Haney appears to understand that it's a conscious decision at the top of the backswing to either "stay up there" as he's put it several times while Charles is at the top of his backswing, or revert back to his unfortunate habit. That's why I don't understand his insistence that "it's in his swing." That comment from Haney (first or second show I think) makes it appear as if there is some separation between what Haney characterizes as the physical motion of the swing and the psychological decision Chuck makes when starting the downswing.

How could you go about taking away the option of lunging downward from the top?

I thought this as well the more I got suckered into the show. What if Charles was told to have a "pause" at the top in some past instruction, whether it be an article or a teacher? What if someone simply said."There is no pause at the top of the backswing"....would it be fixed then??? I wonder.

HOPEFULLY .........................the public takes this whole ordeal to see what kinda of fruad Haney really is!

if you can't help your students anymore than this.......well it is time to move on

I unfortunately caddied for him 4 days in a row at a charity event. He flat out told me that someone said he swung too fast and suggested that he pause at the top. Thats straight from the horse's mouth. Its now in his head.

Bama: The MOST irrational fans of an institution that can possibly exist. They have zero logic when it comes to their football program, its coaches or players. It is impossible to have a legitimate conversation with an Alabama fan.

So yes, in SEC country Bama fans are absolutely the most hated...followed closely by the hillbillies up in Knoxville.

I don't know....I'd say Kentucky fans rival your comments about Bama fans.

Wow...as a Bama alum and long-time season ticket holder (currently living in the Bay Area), I can only say you must not know very many Bama fans.

"MOST irrational"...."zero logic"..."impossible to have a legitimate conversation"..."most hated"....and I suppose those are rational comments? Amazing.

I only have to look at the recent history and actions of boosters, the university president and other athletics personnel to make my statements. In the Chattanooga Tri-State area no other fans come close....not even the Vol nuts. I make this generalization because the talk radio host that DOMINATES Alabama football seems to relish the image. He was featured in Sports Illustrated as "I have fired more UA football coaches than any university president"...classy

Now, maybe you are an "upper-crust" Alabama boy who grew up in Hoover or something and still gets their wife corsages for big home games and probably does not really relate to the average 'Bama fan.

I understand, I am just like you....more southern gentleman and less (or not at all) Jed Clampett redneck. I likely could have a conversation with you, maybe even about Alabama :)

For those that do not know....there are really two "Souths" so to speak....one is dignified and genteel....the other you already know about.

golf teachers chime in here...but i think it would be simple to fix barkley...constant light grip pressure and hum while swinging....you can't hum smoothly and stop on the way down...strangling the club....also if your hips KEEP going targetward how can you stop??? the soft arms-club are being propelled by the hips-torso..

Charles has ball-itis.

Just the site of the ball triggers that head dip move.

How about 5 practice swings.

Then 5 more practice swings with a ball 2 inches outside the target line (not hitting it). But having it in his vision.

Then 1 real swing.

Repeat 10 times.

If he can't stop the head dip after 10 cycles, drop him off at the tennis court.

Haney strikes again.

Bobby Clampett.

Sam Randolph.

Charles Barkley.

These three guys have one thing in common besides golf.

They couldn't "get" the parallel plane theory.

They just couldn't do the gist of of the "Haney Method":

Grip it weak.

Take it away like you are going to finish your backswing with the club on the "golf ball side of your head."

When the club is out away from you, reverse directions and finish your backswing like you want the club as far from the "golf ball side of your head," as possible.

Down-shift your plane angle below the super-flat backswing plane angle,—while cupping your left wrist—and point the butt of the club at the guy hitting balls in front of you's feet.

Save it! by lurching your right shoulder around your left, while you arch your wrist through impact.

Add a "Hollywood-like" faked Hogan-esque reverse roll finish to the mess—just for good measure.

Don't forget to holler:

Fore Right!

Sir Charles....

The first thing I'd do, is get him to finish more left thumb under, and left elbow down, my famous "hang my dry cleaning" finish.

I'd like to see the result, and the subsequent adjustments he'd make finishing that way, and trying to make the ball go where he's lookin'.

ok i have a question

i watched another instructor and he stated that the left elbow down is a must...explaining it controls the clubface

taking it back left elbow down, downswing left elbow down. I dont like to mention names of other instructors on Brians site but a movie i really like is the BallaRd of Josie Whales
