NEW! Brian Manzella YouTube Video - Below Plane and the VSP (+ flying wedge tumble)

Excellent video. I'm glad I don't have this problem. I thought I had the opposite problem (coming OTT) and went looking for a fix here in the forum. Found the thread re: plane lines, angles, and shifts with Brian's Arnold Palmer analysis from about 3 years ago and saw that what I was doing wasn't OTT. I probably would have continued on a path that may have led me in this direction (below plane/stuck). Kinda weird how that worked out. Love this place!

Looks like your drill/setup in the video

Wow - great video I know I need it...

Just wondering about one thing from the video. When Brian shows what the underplane looks like halfway through the downswing, it looks just like me. However, he then says that typically someone releases kind of low and left and has a low VSP. I'm the opposite - the way that I "save" the shot is with a high VSP. My spine angle raises, my hips go towards the ball and my hands stay high. Just wondering if that is also a typical reaction. I'm assuming that the fix is the same anyway - if I tumble and get more on plane, the rest will take care of itself. Is that a fair assumption, or do you think I will run into any other issues?

Great video again, Brian. This was made for me since I always over-rotate the left arm going back. At one point, worse than Tiger. I have been working on getting out of that, but when playing, it always creeps in. Also was working on swinging more inside-out (dumb). On video, I was way underplane (just like you show!) and trying to arch and bow my wrists like crazy. I practiced feeling the tumble and that effortless power feeling came back (especially the driver). I also notice on video that my right forearm points more to the plane line. Before, the forearm was way above it. Ideas that worked for me: keeping the left shoulder more down in transition, and getting the left arm more vertical at parallel in downswing. Thanks again!

I have a question. My problem has always been swinging too far right and being underplane. Well, in the last few days I fixed the swinging too far right,(for now) with proper tumbling I hope. But how can I be sure that I'm still not underplane and compensating for it somehow?

a little background on my swing. I'm just above the turned shoulder plane with a slightly steep pivot. I have a slightly strong grip, maybe five degrees. I'm a little over the line and have been hitting a little baby fade with a bigger fade if i don't rotate my left arm as much. I'm new to these concepts so dumb it down for me. thanks for any input you guys can give

Re watch the video. High hands does not mean a high vertical swing plane.

Kevin - I rewatched the video again. Call me dense, but I didn't really pick up on what you mean. What I was talking about is what Brian talks about from 8:00 to 8:30 in the video.

Maybe to be more clear, I'm talking about high hands at impact, which means my shaft has to be more vertical, which I'm assuming? generally means a high VSP. I was on a Trackman last year and my VSP with a driver with a driver was averaging around 51 degrees - not sure if that is high or low???

Here is my underplane look - my butt started on the red line, and the yellow line was shaft plane at address.

This was the closest video frame to impact- hands and shaft are quite a bit higher than address. Spine angle is way more vertical. I didn't capture another frame, but during the follow thru, the shaft shows up again coming out of my head, where with Brian's video it exits out his left shoulder, so I'm assuming that I release it more vertically, than more "around".

I have to feel my hands coming down closer to my body instead of out at the ball.

Never trust lines. They lie.
I am not saying that you are not doing what you say you are but the lines prove very little to me. The camera angle looks a little out in front of you for some reason.
Someone with a better clue will chime in.

I finally got to watch the whole video and there is sure a lot in there. I wish I had found this site and that video at the beginning of my trying to rid of my BPS. Would have saved me a whole winter worth of work. Oh well I would have just spent it on the couch getting fat instead of in the garage freezing and working on my swing.

The angle of the shaft has nothing, zero, to do with the VSP. people have high hands and low VSP's all the time. Its only the clubhead. Like I said, its covered in the video.

Just wanted to add that due to thinking about BP and short shots, I tried some Above Plane backswing thoughts and created a new pitch shot for myself, as well, as.. then realized in the bunker I was probably BP, and so made some above plane changes, and holy cow...so much better!

Thnks to Brian for making these idea(s) available.
