Hi speed camcorders, Casio,Trackman,Phantom, how the mind learns new motor patterns, Force plates, etc, etc... all are tools. They help an instructor see and understand the swing. The more information and knowledge an instructor has the more weapons he has in his arsenal to help.I don't think people who don't teach for a living realize how tough it is. When you see more than 200 students a year from the woman who is 57 years old, over weight and has never done an athletic thing in her life , to Benny who is on the mini tours, you soon realize that each and everyone is so unique and there is no cookie cutter way to help them. In an hour lesson you had better have weapons, experience , and a quick mind in order to help them. I wish I had the money to have all those things at my disposal. Most students would never see a lot of them but all of them would benefit from me owning them.

Lia, what are you on? "These machines" can be used for evil or good; they can provide false-knowledge to the less able instructor. I see nothing in the presentation(s) here that warrants your comments.

Nothing, huh? When its said that there's no chance that's hype. Hence my Tiger and Jack references. I warrant that.

Brian didn't say there was no chance for anyone to learn to play at the highest level. He was saying one camera has no chance vs. 6 dof 3D in explaining or capturing what is actually happening in the golf swing. That's what I got from it, but then again I don't have an agenda.

So you're speaking for Brian?

The truth is his "no chance" admonishment was a thinly veiled insult. That's his agenda.

I am going to say this once and only once....

There is NO WAY to determine when the PELIVS, TORSO, LEAD ARM, and CLUB are peaking in speed without a device like this.

None.

I stand by that, and I could get 1000 pros and industry leaders to agree with me.

Period.

I don't presume to speak for anyone. I was stating my take on what he said. Are you really that dense?

I'll go with non-veiled insult. Grade A Douchebag.

Someone should tell Tiger and Jack they had no chance to do what they did without using someone's system to hit balls in a laboratory.

You assume that the BM is implying that no one could become great without this technology and then show by example that it is not true. Create a straw man and then knock it down. Law school argumentation Lia?

Lia is the guy in California who got caught in the car pooling lane and claimed his corporate papers were a person and therefore more than one person was in the car. Language is all about context. What does Brian have to do, write an essay on what he's saying so some fool doesn't play games? I suspect Lia would be a fine golfer in Findland.

He has to be practicing for his career as a trial lawyer. They have to be able to come up with some crazy arguments at will...

I may actually understand what you are implying, Lia...

I had the same question when the two Jim McLean graphs were shown on a different thread.

What if the graph that showed an optimal sequence resulted in the worst shot?

It's a legit question.
This

More to it as well...

Will golf just increasingly become a data dump?

This notion that with these sorts of devices that assessing rather than guessing is going on...well, that's a big assumption. Too much information could be bad for teacher and student.

But whatever helps, I suppose.

I love Lindsay's free flowing and athletic swing. I wish you and her all the best, Brian.

I just disagree with many of these statements.

I always believe that you can make the best decisions when you have as much information as possible. Now its a seperate argument about the validity of the data but too much information, don't buy that.

If you are saying that a teacher may not know what to do, or how to interpret the information, and then implement that with a student then again that's a different subject.

Give me the information and I will make my own decisions, or in the case of the teacher put the trust in their ability.

Consider the outcome Brian stated in the video, of thinking that they had certain things right, but the 6DoF showed they could improve 2 areas where they didn't have her quite right. I'm going to assume (why not?) that her ball flight or impact improved, as surely that is a major part of Brian's goals for her.

As far as myself, or dare I say any club golfer, getting to a more "optimal sequence"...I may still have too much variability in gamma despite the sequence being better. So sure EK's statement is possible but it still boils down to an instructor and a student working together, and more than sequence goes into the pot.

Information overload, lyng with statistics, etc.

Golf coaching is increasingly turning to the methods of management consultants.
