regarding Manuel DeLa Torre

in your new video clip you mention the swinging motion of de la torre. you seemed pretty impressed to some degree, but having read and seen dlt's video, i would think you would disagree with some of his thoughts. what's your full take on some of his ideas? namely he does advocate a very centered ball position as well as a centered tripod stance and takeaway. thanks

De La Swing!

Mr. De La Torre is a passionate teacher who abhors any force against the shaft.

Pure Swinging all the way.

Having said that, I'd rather read Ernest Jones and be done with it (pure swing concepts).

I was on a Jones/De la Torre kick for about a year. I have the "Swing the Clubhead" book and "Understanding the Golf Swing" by the aforementioned teachers. I never got one bit better. It encourages flipping and moving everything with the hands.

They both teach a hand controlled pivot, with the head dead still and every shot played in the middle of the stance. I am so glad that I got a clue and happened on this site one day - it has changed my game.

I can see now - with the imperatives of TGM, how a pure swinging motion could work, but for the struggling golfer, looking for answers, this will make you worse, a lot worse. Cause you will be a worse flipper than you can imagine.

Bottom line, you've got to have the imperatives, no matter what. I hope we don't get away from that, because the imperatives, along with a correct pivot have transformed my game.

BTW, right or wrong, I like keeping my left wrist as flat as possible throughout the whole swing.

Also, right or wrong, I like sensing a "heavy" clubhead. All this stuff that is being poo pooed, helped me become a better golfer. So IMO, there is still a lot of merit to it.

Thanks Coach!!

Just a REMINDER TO EVERYONE!!!!

I never ever said that keeping a flat left wrist throughout the WHOLE swing, or to the follow-through or finish swivel wasn't a good idea for 90% of all golfers.

It is!

All I am now saying is to DO IT, you need some force across the shaft, or leveraging in Ernest Jones-ese.

Hope I made myself clear.

90%...
90%...
90%...
90%...

:D   ;) :p :)

How? would not just swiveling the left forearm and keeping the right wrist bent ala Horizontal Hinging accomplish the same thing? It doesn't "feel" like I'm applying force, but maybe I am.

Pure swinging is for people who don't have problems with throwaway in my opinion. Once you can master say for instance, the twist-away pattern with a full roll of the left arm while keeping a flat left wrist and do it WHENEVER you please for WHATEVER shot you want.

Then you can look into pure swinging.

At this point, you are already pretty good, so what do you gain?

IMO, people should be striving for the Doyle/Manzella 4B stroke, not this pure swinging "elegance". Seems a step backward, IMO, for most.

I don't know enough about the 4 barrel swinging stroke so i can't comment. I know that with my "pure swinging" type stroke i still generate 115mph of driver speed with relatively no effort. Maybe i could bump that up to 120 with a 4 barrel i don't know.

However how much more will learning that really impact my game and lower my scores? Up for debate.

Is it because of the full roll? The law of the flail will have the clubshaft trailing the left arm (created by wristcock). Then when low point is reached, the "overtaking" would be turned into swivel action?
