Colors

After a bit of use and web surfing, my opinion is that green is over used on golf websites - it's also used by many rivals. The blue and grays from before were acceptable. I don't strongly prefer the non-greens, maybe like a 60/40 preference. The addition of the black menu area does help differentiate.

However, the area that also is somewhat bothersome is the muted pastel green of the posts and headers - who wants to see baby puke green so much?

Anyway, there's obviously a lot of thought and work already put into the new features, and good luck to the team.

One other note about the site - the width has been changed in some manner, and though is conforming to an iphone, extends quite bit over on 800x600 screens (where it used to dynamically fit the height and width); and is even slightly wider than what a 1024x768 display can show.

only available under quick reply, or when editing there is a "go advanced" - and "go advanced" is same as reply... which offers no advanced tools.

Many variables involved. What is perfectly readable on my now dated Thinkpad at 1024 x 768 may look very tiny on a screen with a higher resolution. Also, when you are accustomed to a font size and then are presented with a different size, it takes some time to adapt. In windows, press Ctrl + or Ctrl - to zoom out or in. vBulletin is a very popular piece of software. I expect there are numerous people providing software products, and hacks. Who knows maybe there is a way to do what want, but the reality is that there is a trade-off between font size, and how much fits on the screen.

Thanks for the tip about zooming in/out in windows with ctrl+/-. I wasnt aware of that, and it makes a significant difference.

I'm with dbl on the effectiveness of the pastel green. I write software in my industry of expertise. Over the years I have settled on some standard looks. Mine is gray backgrounds and dark blue field labels and black data in the fields. I have tried the pastels and they are just harder to read, not enough contrast. I think dark blue substituted for the green would be worthy of consideration and probably a very simple coding change. The colors for the various element types are probably a click a color choice for the host.

I'm sure Brian appreciates and respects everyone's comments. Only I know how hard he's worked on this new format, and continues to do so every day. Trust me, it hasn't been easy. He's done a great job, and I actually like the green color palette. I think it may just take some getting used to, like anything else. Change is good! And, as always ... thanks for your support of Brian's efforts.

I like the green as well! It's almost the same shade as I have the background on my MP3 player. I think the color choices are one of those "you can please some of the people some of the time" situations.

I'm sure plenty of folks around here are interested in the content, not the packaging. But the man already knows he's got the content, so no reason not to present it in a nice new package. Having done a fair amount of video editing, and graphic design work myself, I for one am impressed with his website. A top 100 teacher and he still has time to learn editing software and photoshop? I think alot of golf pro's (NOT equipment manufacturers) overlook marketing. You can have the best information out there, but if you can't market a lick no one is gonna know about it.

Very true, and we should all remember that what we are seeing is simply the last iteration. You can be certain that
there were many others that were tried and didn't make the cut. Days, weeks, months, hour after hour staring at the screen,
getting stuck, figuring it out at 2 AM, and then going do his day job!

Still under construction eh.

So far...despite being lime green, it seems more plain to me. Maybe just because your mug is missing from the top...and there's less contrast. No big deal.

I like the Blog section, and idea of some sectionS. Important "Manzella Content" categorized.

The only thing I miss so far is the "Go to first unread post" button. Again though, not that big a deal.

The Top100 logo looks good up there ooooooooooooohhhh yeeeeeeeauuuuhhhh brrrrrrrrruther.

So....

I made the BLOG entry only for me....:)

I made the green links darker, but blue—like on my youtube.com/brianmanzella page is still possible.

The default VBulletin style is nearly exactly the old color....but I wanted some change.....

The old site was tweaked 1000's of times, and this one will be to.

Thanks for the comments, keep 'em coming, but try to understand the amount of work that went into getting here.

;)

Darker Green is good.

On my browser, the Golf Digest graphic in top righthand corner is cutoff at the right edge of the last A in AMERICA. I think the issue is simply that it is tough to make the content fit all browsers and screen resolutions. No doubt there is are coding solutions out there.

Okay, whew, blog is fixed!

One thing you may want to check later ....

If you don't login there is a blog button in the green nav top under logo, and you can read Brian's blog entries

Once you login the blog button is gone, so can't read the blog. So that means for instance the Aaron Baddeley blog post can't be read if logged in, only when logged out.

Brian,

The smileys appear like someone let them let bake and fade in the hot sun?

They can add more meaning to short posts and are quite important.

There are improvements, no doubt.

Sizing is not as nice as it was on the old site. The new site doesn't fit my screen: its too narrow, leaving gaps at the sides.

Blue is better.

The text is, as mandin said about the smileys, somehow not sharp in places eg Brian Manzella at the top gives me the impression I need glasses/spectacles, as does the Top 100 logo. I think it maybe has something to do with the contrast of the colours against the background.

I think someone may have mentioned before if you are a Windows user you can hit Ctrl and + or - to make the site smaller or larger on your screen. Depending on your screen resolution settings things will look a little different. I have a feeling the logos looking a little blurry may be a resolution issue of the images Brian used. I've got mine at 1280 X 1024 and it looks pretty good so he might have it optimized for that resolution, or something close.

When you use Ctrl + to zoom in on the short shot pivot video you can see the whole thing. I'm not sure if that helps or not.

I'm liking it.
At first I had to get used to a new look as I hate change of any kind but I am now liking the ease of going to different area's and I really like the plans for video, instruction and products.
Bravo Brian.

I really like the color change that just happened today. A little more blue and a little less green. Looks perfect!
