Something New About the Swing That You Learned...

Name something about the golf swing that you learned that at one time blew your mind?

Just curious to hear the answers.

Just how far left you have to swing to hit it straight. Really opened my eyes and confirmed that the plane really is boss!

i used mid body setup today, and it was awesome. I literally tried it on the course while playing against others.

My first ever lesson with a pro he showed me how to allow the hands to rolll over through impact - I had been a flipper, although I still am, not to the same extent. I gained probably 25% distance on all my shots in that one lesson.

I bought COFF seven weeks ago wherein I learned that you were supposed to hit the inside aft quadrant of the ball - I haven't failed to break 80 in any round since. (So many wasted years, sigh!).

For me, it was the Trackman data Brian provided, particularly how far I need to hit down with a 6-iron. I thought I was hitting down in ample fashion and then when I got on Trackman I found I wasn't even close. Now I believe I hit far down enough as I don't flip and my impact alignments are far better.

The D-Plane stuff sort of blew my mind, but it was more like 'oh, that makes sense. Actually, that makes a lot more sense than the old way.'

i thought the point of the dplane/trackman was that your numbers would be better if you hit the ball at low point. but, since you have to hit down somewhat to make solid contact on the sweetspot, trackman provides info on how much left you need to aim/swing.

Learned about the D-plane.

Also learned how different things affect the swing: Cupped wrist vs. bowed wrist at top, across the line vs. laid off, more axis tilt vs. less axis tilt, inside takeaway vs. outside takeaway, swinging to right field vs. left field, more toss vs. less toss, low hands vs high hands at address, pop out vs SD takeaway, square shoulder vs. open shoulders at impact, and so on.

Learned that controlling the face at seperation is very important!

Still learning how to self diagnose my swing. The journey continues, but love every minute of it!

I like the Trackman and D-Plane too. I recently watched someone explain the 3D pivot. That was pretty eye opening for me.

when you say hit down, are you saying how much steeper into the ball you need to be, or rather to avoid picking it clean? thanks

Brian wrote in a blog post that you have to hit down about -3.5 degrees with a 6-iron. When I got on the Trackman I was trying to hit down and thought I was going down pretty well, but was only at -2.7 degrees. I then kept working at it to get at -3.5 degrees and it felt like I was chopping at the thing, but the results were great and when I got the swing caught on camera, my impact alignments were much, much better.

Wow...I must have swallowed the whole pill bottle. :D A few months ago, I started working on hitting more DOWN on my irons, as my club pro said I was too shallow with them. Well...a recent Trackman club fitting showed my 6-iron angle of attack between -4.0 and -5.6. Guess now I need to shallow it out some!
P.S. Love the MP-62s that I bought as a result of the Trackman club fitting.

New: D-plane

Blew my mind: Lag pressure....

While that takes me down the road to "walloping with the pivot," I'd say it's "stressing the shaft" and keeping it stressed.

I've always done it naturally with the full swings, as I've grown up playing the game, but I honestly didn't hit a really good 1/2 shot (that wasn't lucky) until I was about 23 which was after a college scholarship and during play on the Canadian Tour.....

You are always learning...

Funny, I bought some MP-62's as well after a Trackman fitting (but I had in mind these clubs before the Trackman fitting)
