Retired teacher's thoughts: clear modelling by the teacher and understanding on the part of the student of the desired learning/student outcome; clear guided practice, clear feedback, review and "homework" in the form of drills, exercises, key thoughts.

^I think this is the best explanation.

Leaving with an idea of WHAT to work on, WHY i am working on it, HOW to work on it, and a desire to work on it.

Creating the last bit probably isnt neccesary for all... Some are supremely internally motivated, but i have never met a person who didnt up their intensity and resolve when they felt like someone else was pulling for them.

From a 78 year old student... Knowing I`m not just a paycheck..To make me understand what the teacher is talking about.
When I`m told that what I have to do to better my swing, show me HOW to do it not thats what you have to do. I sure most of the people on here seem to be teachers. Its very hard to understand what is taught here from students that are not knowlegable from the scientifc explanations. I didnt know this was more for a teacher s site than a students..jmo

For the Student:
Not being overwhelmed with new information, Believing what is being changed/taught, and Confidence that he/she can actually practice/do what is being changed/taught.

For the Teacher:
A student with an open mind, a positive attitude and the wherewithal to accept and commit.

For Both:
Ears. Listen.

They leave hitting it better than whence they came, ALWAYS; no exceptions. (they don't REALLY need to understand why but happy if they do)

PS that's my mantra...if i can't do that you don't pay. In my teaching career has only happened once and i blame myself for it.

For me as a student..... it is leaving the lesson with a feel that I can carry to practice and play...

Golf is all about the "hope meter". As a teacher my main goal is to get every player's HOPE up. It comes from instruction that is competent, quantifiable, and most importantly inspiring.

All I ever want from a lesson is a couple of "take homes" that I can work on along with some new understanding of what my tendencies are.

I’m assuming the survey is for one golf lesson (about 1 hour) and not a series of lessons (which would have a different success parameters) …

taking the golfer, with their unique swing, “moving the numbers” utilizing techniques (as explained in the trackman video, where I had my epiphany) thereby getting the d-plane closer to tour average as achievable for said golfer (verified by a radar device) and giving the golfer a take home on what they need to do when they practice on their own

the golfer understanding why they are hitting it better, although valuable, is not necessary (more of a long term understanding of the building a swing and might not happen in only one lesson)

I believe a lesson success goes something like this.

You perform a miracle on the lesson tee. Expert launches an investigation into your life in search of “evidence of heroic virtue.” What he finds he passes to a local bishop, who does more research

If they think you’ve got what it takes, they ask the pope to make a proclamation of your heroic virtue

The Roman Curia seeks proof that you performed a miracle. I guess that means it must work in a round of golf with witnesses and a signed scorecard.

rogue, could you go into more detail on your trackman epiphany? i'm interested in understanding how best to convey TM data to students.

But no one at the Vatican can break 90...
