Swing Sensations

It seems I respond better to descriptions of sensations rather than mechanical explanations. I know this isn't exactly in tune with what TGM is about, but quite frankly, all the other golf message boards out there really suck...I'm not sure where else to go for help with the more basic things.

Now for example, when I hit my best shots, I feel like my shoulders come into the ball closed to the target line shortly before impact and as the ball takes off, it feels as though my head (and right shoulder) swivels up into the finish from underneath...like an uppercut, and almost as if I'm trying to read something on the underside of the ball (if it weren't spinning, of course). I don't know how this looks (hopefully not too much like Natalie Gulbis), or if it's even a feel I should strive for.

Any other "sensations" like this that you guys try for when working on your swings, or is it strictly mechanical? What sensation has been most helpful to you? Again, sorry if this isn't the place for something like this, but this forum has done more for my swing than any other.

This IS the place for this!

OK guys and gals...

SWING SENSATIONS:

I'll go first:

"Lift, Drop, and Rotate"

"Frisbee toss feel"

"Start under, work under, stay under"

Great topic!!

I strike the best and most consistant when i feel my arms swing the club on plane and my body supports that motion. So it's swing arms with a dead body (it.s not dead but i think of it this way). My practice swings are with that thought.
During the actual swing my thought is to feel the clubhead, and try to feel the centrifugal force pull on my fingers, this way it makes me relax my hands, wrists and fore arms and try to keep tension free.

turn, spin, twist, rotate.

Turn to the right, and then turn to the left and the right, fighting with the club "lag".

Good stuff. How about HIT sensations?

I like those, a variation of your first, good for fire safety too...

Stop, drop and roll

Inside, under, behind

Left hand karate chop, right hand upper cut punch (bent right wrist)

Should anything be included in this to ensure you don't get the club trapped behind you? ...and what does pushing against clubhead lag feel like?

And the winner is...

The best one of all time,

and 100% Manzella:

"Twist and tilt"

For hitting try:

"Push back on the right foot and shoulder while you push out with the heel of the right hand"

Everything, including the pivot, accumulator and club, moves simulteneously.

...and what does pushing against clubhead lag feel like?
Bending the club shaft (mimicked by pushing the clubhead against something stationary). Onced loaded, to (intend to) keep bending the shaft, the pivot has to keep turning while the right arm straightening and the right wrist unbending.

100 % Manzella?

I'm certain Dante would disagree

Palmer too (at least on the 'twist').

About the last thing all of us who are eager to learn need is for EdZ to feel less compelled to post.

You've got a problem, dude.

Really.

No problem at all Brian. Really. I know you think everyone is out to "tear you down", but as I have said in the past, my intention is to help people play better, and give credit where due. I give you much more credit that you 'think', but with your ego as your 'filter', you think everything is an 'attack'.

Not the least bit. Really.

I really appreciate all the advice that you have given on this board and consider you are very important contributor...you have helped my game a tremendous amount.

But, I often wonder why you pick at Brian so much. Whether, he is right, wrong, and/or arrogant is something we all could debate for a very long time. But, what does it add to the board?

Not picking or slamming on you, but just a little curious as to what your agenda is?

Swing sensations never work forever.

Let's say you try to "remember" the exact feel of a perfect shot you hit, and try to reproduce that exact sensation again and again. This procedure will eventually fail to produce that perfect shot, even though the sensation remains exactly the same.

This is because a change in the actual motion is necessary to maintain the same feel. Our body gets desensitised to the same feels, and it needs to exaggerate whatever we are doing more in order to get the same feels over time.

That's why it's so important to have someone constantly checking your swing, or use a video camera, etc.
