Thank you letter to Michael Jacobs

I bought this video and will give my honest assessment: some of the stuff was pretty esoteric but the bits about shearing forces were absolutely eye-opening! I definitely wasn't using the ground to my fullest advantage. I went to the range and worked on turning the earth and had trouble at first because I was backwards.

Nice job Michael - I think this will help people develop better swings.

My feelings exactly Woodbridge. The ground forces was worth it. It would have been great if there was a way to get the pelvis tilt correct "in the field" without having to own a K-vest. The spacing of the feet was also interesting.

I think the stance width topic was the easiest to work on. I always wished for something more definitive than inside of feet to outside of shoulders for the driver. My kitchen floor tiles 3 wide are exactly the correct width for my recommended width.

The Pelvic tilt topic is more difficult, because how do you measure it. Useful to understand the sequence of tilt changes.

I think the ground shear forces description needed to be more fully explained. I have to watch it again.

All in all well worth the price.

The stance width was eye-opening for me,, quite surprising how much more I need to widen my stance (like Brian said last June!!). I made my own 'rough' mat during the video,, I'll make a more permanent one soon.

As for the remainder, I'll probably have to watch a few more times,, I'm not the brightest lightbulb on the chandelier.

Backwards is the key word for me Wood. Intuitively you want to do exactly the opposite to what is required. I am not sure why but I think if you start with the idea that you must turn the hips and shoulders it becomes easy to do if you take the GRF's out of the picture. You get the illusion of an effective turn. But is just a loose, momentum driven rotation. And leads to the same kind of rotation on the downswing.

I became convinced of the need to change when I saw the segment rotation graphs and saw how slow the pelvis rotation was relative to torso, arms and clubs in the tour swing. You sense a lot of potential energy being stored in the pelvis just waiting to be released once the footwork is reversed.

Amen to what Drew just said. I was trying this in the shower this morning. Counter Intuitive. Maybe this is why, who was it?, Norman or Nicklaus' rear foot went back away from the target line in the down swing.

Finally I'm starting to feel what correct sequencing feels like. Feels like the earth is the large cog in a gear and I'm the smaller gear.

Yeah Soft. That rear foot move "back" is key for me (it doesn't really go back that much or at all but that is what it feels like). I remember Moe Norman commenting on Tigers swing. Something to the effect that he stopped making that rear foot go back on the downswing. I believe T started rehearsing it in his practice swing awhile.
