birdie_man--Cool, so you want to point that Tiger does things against the odds instead of pointing out he's lucky...that's progress, although, you're now going to be stating the obvious. Thanks for the continued laughs.

NEVER PITCH FOR PAR

Self Mastety; I am glad you are over theory but still in idol worship. bet you can't even shoot close to par like your girlfriend! Lo blo

MEH...

I'm a mid 70's shooter trying to break 60 this season. I feel very close to achieving my goal because my ball striking throughout the bag is better than it was early summer of last year. My only suspect area is pitching, but I've designed my game around avoiding my trouble areas...

I just got through compressing my 5 iron so hard that my ears ache:)

S-M: Path Plane Perfection.

Stop disrespecting LO-CHO, she's so nice.

Self Mastery,

I apologize for the rant but all these opinons around here are just that, including mine. No need for me to voice mine. I am only interested in the truth and applying it.

Thanks

How many hours have you spent doing the following?

1. Attending National Summits
2. Writing ORIGINAL stuff on the swing
3. Researching the swing on 3D machines, trackman's, etc
4. Blowing up your own perfectly adequate swing 100's of times testing components and patterns
5. Watch video 'til 4 in the morning
6. Lining stills up in photoshop
7. ?

Just curious...

Tiger Lucky?

Was Tiger lucky making the 20ft put to win?

Hmmm....

If I was called out of the gallery to putt for him, and I made it, would it be considered luckier than if Tiger did it?

What about a 4 year old little girl?

Think folks...

As far as George's theory, I have to side with Damon. The great ones find a way.

Lucky?

Hmmm....

Anyone who even thinks of, let alone says out loud, the averages or statistical probability of doing anything in golf will never reach their potential or be the player they are capable of because they would never understand what it takes.
I have a student who actually said to me he has no chance to make birdies with wedges if he doesn't hit it inside 6 feet because Pelz says the it's statistically improbable that he will make a putt outside that range. People like that cant be helped.

You know what? All of this would've been a non-issue had Tiger made the birdie putt on the 17th.

Imagine if he had made the birdie putt on the 17th and walked to the 18th needing par and getting it. There would be no mention of him being lucky.

Read #4 everyone!

I respectfully disagree, George!

I think that the brain is MUCH more powerful than what you are giving it credit for.

I think instincts or unconscious brain processes built up over several years cannot be measured but can be factored in.

Someone once told me that we only see/like what we are trained to see.

Just because we don't know how Tiger does what he does, or that Tiger even necessarily knows how he does what he does, doesn't mean we should put the needle in this particular haystack and call it luck. Nor should we discount that possibility.

The fact is, we don't know, and you know, that is all right!!

This is why I love humans like Brian. I just like the way your brain works.

Progress? From what lia?

(lia still is filling in blanks for me I think)

Thanks for the continued laughs.

Ya you keep laughing buddy.

Brian and Kevin--totally agree with you guys.

Know what's really funny lia?

I agree too!

HA.

Not so much with Kevin though. (though I respect him and his opinion)

Or at least I am not the kind of guy he has in mind.

I am about 100% opposite of what he has in mind.....which I think should be obvious after 4000 posts of me talking about basically whatever comes to my brain.

If anything, I am too idealistic...almost to a fault. I think I can overcome anything, do anything. It's all within the realm of "what is realistic." (so long as you have very high standards)

You MAKE your own odds baby. Tiger has very good ones, of course. And he works at improving them every day, I'm sure.

I think that maybe if some of you weren't too busy trying to pin me down and interpret things the way you want to (to win an argument) you would realize this is what I have been all about all along.

Tiger made only 1 out of 21 or 22 putts over 20 feet during Bay Hill tourney, that one putt being the putt on the last hole. He struggled with speed, grain and reads on longer putts all week as most of the field did. The Bay Hill greens are obviously tough.

Tiger just maximizes his chances on longer putts by being an incredible putter - one of the best of all time, but no one makes a really high percentage of 20-footers. His edge is when he is really on and he makes almost every putt under 8-10 feet, which is the distance you have much more control over and where nerves really are tested.

How many 20 footers has Tiger missed in the final round of tournaments when he is on the lead in big tournaments? A huge number, like everyone else. But he has made some stunning bombs in the clutch (and stunning bombs get remembered and misses are forgotten) and he had strings like the Match Play championship because he has been in that position a lot more than most players and maximizes his chances by being incredible (and yes, chance obviously does play a much bigger role in making a 40 footer than a 3 footer).

This is a great post! You sir see the big picture.

I have absolutely no problems with that.

Anyone else? Hmmm....

And Soy Milk drinking is one of the few contests that I think I could take Tiger.

niblick I would out-chug you and Tiger! (in a wheelchair!) I have much experience to call on.

self-mastery wouldn't hang.

Yes. And watching him in the current tournament in Miami shows that his ball striking is not significantly better than the other top players, and that on those less predictable greens, he has the same kinds of problems that we see in others and in our own game.

The final round will be fascinating to watch!

Less predictable greens in Miami? What an idiotic comment. The greens at Doral are MUCH BETTER than the greens at Bay Hill. Tiger didn't play last week and snuck one out. This week, Scott, Ogilvy, and Singh are playing very well. Simple.
