Not a rules hawk, so genuinely curious to the answer for this question: is it legal for him to be doing that? Maybe cause it's silly season non tour event it's ok?

Only if a glove is a practice device as defined in Rule 14-3 of the U.S. Golf Association's rules of golf, which bar the use of practice devices during rounds.

I'm not an expert either. I googled "Julie Inkster Penalty".

Im interested to know what "for Tiger" this is working on>?

Is it moving the chest more rotary through the shot for more of a hold of fade that he couldnt seem to hit there toward the middle of the back 9?(Kind of Hunter Mahan ish)

Or is it to keep the tilt/connection in the backswing?

No, its to keep the hands on the same path

OK so if you know this for sure would you mind elaborating>?
As I did reference "connection" in the back swing as a general statement in that the arms and shoulders could stay on about the same plane? How does the glove under the armpit influence the hand path?
Also I cant be sure but I think he went to this drill after hitting a few pulls which is why I may have thought it would influence a hold off fade.

Keeps the hand path more inside. I can have left side connection and take the hands well outside. If I'm trying to keep the glove in the right armpit, forces me to keep the hands more inside.

Foley is trying to have Tiger rotate the shoulders at 90* to the spine. That in large part is why he's trying to get Tiger to get the hand path more inside.

Is anybody in the know enough to tell us the progress with the driver.....which used to be his 2nd biggest weapon next to the putter?

What if TW went back to a shorter driver 43" maybe even steel?
If he can hit farther than his 3WD then maybe it would get him in play more often?

He'll hit more fairways and eliminate those wild tee shots but will lose at least 15 yards. He cannot possibly swing a 43" steel shafted driver at 125mph anymore like he used to.He can't even swing his current 45" graphite shafted driver that fast these days.

I know it's dangerous to write off Tiger as he has often proven otherwise but I fear he has changed his swing once too often, has spent all his quota of 15 foot putts that matter and his almost perfect record of winning tournaments while leading on Sunday has gotta start evening out.His odds are against him.If he does break Jack's record he'll do it limping over the line.

That would be OK. Gotta remember that Jack finished compiling his record at the age of 46, and he'd been reading his (golfing) obituaries probably since the late '70s.

Sean O'Hair did a drill where he put a glove under the right armpit and hit driver with it. They have the same instructor, there must be some theory behind it.
I personally like that drill, rather than putting the glove under the left armpit.
I think tighten his right armpit keeps him from dipping the left shoulder too much in the backswing and he can return it more "level"
He was known to have negative attack angle on his driver. This may " level off" the attack angle and give him more yards.

His record had to even out you cant win as many tournaments as he has without losing, i reckon it will be at least 40 years before you see someone win 14 out of 15 majors with the lead going into the last round. I think we have been spoiled by what we have seen with Tiger, it will take years to truly put into perspective what he has achieved. And along a similar line I dont think we should compare Tiger Woods to what he did back in 2000 because he will never have another year like that.

To Tiger's credit he believes he can do better than 2000.That's his mind set.A bit like Jack never remembering he ever missed a 3 foot putt. This will power alone will probably get him over the line.

I've talked to quite a few people about this. In fact, I have one friend of mine whose brother goes to about 15 PGA Tour events a year (he's young and retired, selling off a .com back in the 90's and is a certified golf nut). The consensus is he's much much better with the driver now. The big thing is that he doesn't lose shots to the right all of the time and he's gained his old distance back. I got this from 4 different people, so I think it's pretty credible.

That drill is done to get his hand path more inside. I've talked to Foley students and that's the reason why they do that drill. Remember, Tiger was getting laid off at the top and 'popping out.' The big thing Foley teaches, which IMO really isn't different from the S&T guys, is he wants the shoulders turning 90* to the spine, back and thru. He doesn't want the head moving back on the backswing either. Regardless of what we think, that's the reason behind his glove in the right armpit drill and having Steve Williams put a shaft upside his skull while he swings.

I think you bring up a good point. I look at Tiger a bit like I feel about Moe Norman. Hearing Moe talk and listening to guys who played tournaments with Moe, one could see why he could shoot incredible rounds and hit incredible shots and why he couldn't achieve greatness outside of the Canadian Tour. Yes, Moe had anti-social behavior, but if you listened to Moe talk, he was all about going for the gusto. He didn't play with fear on the course. He talked about if you're -3 after 14 how everybody talks about 'hope I can hang on to break par' and he would say 'birdie the last 4 and shoot a 65.' I think Moe had to have that type of attitude to shoot 59 as often as he did and to hit those incredible shots he did. I'm fairly aggressive on the course and fairly confident compared to most golfers, even those of my caliber, but I don't think I could ever quite achieve Moe's fearlessness and confidence and that's why I think even if I had Moe's mechanics and coordination, I still wouldn't hit the ball nearly as great as he did. Now, I might be able to achieve great success on the PGA Tour, but to be the guy that everybody stops to watch on the range is a different story.

With Tiger, it's a similar attitude. Believing that he can outplay what he did in 2000. I don't know if I could truly believe that, particularly his win at Pebble Beach. To me, that's about the highest level of golf one can play outside of Johnny Miller's 63 at Oakmont. But that's probably what makes Tiger great whereas if I had Tiger's skill and ability, I'd likely be just very good.

I do feel for Tiger a bit. He went with Haney and IMO, he did 6-7 years worth of damage to his game. Yes, he won a ton and won a lot of majors, but that's because he developed into a great putter and a great overall short game. If he had better instruction, he could've won more and smashed records. Now he's got to get himself out of the Haney stuff and that takes time. It also takes away time he could spend on putting. And then even if you get it down, it takes time to fully trust it.

Its a great mind set for him, but i think its something people should bear in mind when they make comparisons.
