I may be wrong but I doubt Tiger goes to Dick's to buy his balls. I'm sure there is a big difference with what he's playing and what they are selling to "hacks".

Again untrue; the Nike Platinum ball, this years model, is EXACTLY 100% the same ball Tiger is playing. However previous year's nike platinums were slightly different in cover softness.

Now i'm not saying his aren't "hand picked" for consistency and balance would "could" be possible but as far as construction it is the exact same ball

Jim I could have sworn that at some point Brian discussed (in a post) how the ball pros play are better than the ones off the shelf. He said that David Toms game him some his tour balls to play with. But I could be mistaken?

I know what Brian said and i'm not denying that the tour pros are set to "better specs" but i'm telling you tiger's ball at it's normal construction is exactly 100% the same ball you can buy at retail sans any "hand picking."

All balls have to pass tests and i have played all kinds of tour products:

irons
drivers
tour only shafts
tour only balls that don't make retail
tour issued balls of pro v1's, nikes, taylormades, etc

Most of the time the tour stuff is not RADICALLY different (of the same model) no matter what any people want to hype it up.

Sometimes drivers have different CG's more optimized for higher swing speed higher ball speed tour pros than their retail counterparts and this can affect launch angle and spin. Similar with irons BUT to less of an extent unless it's a special model that was made "to look" like the retail for marketing purposes only.

Balls are no different; sometimes you end up with a tour only ball that is slightly tweaked that never makes it to retail (go check out the approved ball list and see how many are on there) and at times those particular balls can be different than others but be labeled ALMOST EXACTLY the same as a retail ball. Some maybe that spin less and have hotter cores (similar to a distance ball) and thus goes further.

Nice going, I was kidding of course. How do you think your potentiol weight loss will effect your distance, if any? Thanks Tom

Huge. I know how much faster I can swing at a lighter weight. With the new equipment and trackman and now knowing what I should be using, I can't wait to get there.

i'm going to quietly leave this conversation...all i'm going to leave everyone with is that every ball played on the PGA has to pass all the tests just like drivers to be legal. There are multiple balls that don't make it to retail that are on that list and players do play. Go to the approved ball list and you'll see that.

you meant last year's model since there ain't no Platinum this year.

"Hey Brian, here are some (used) balls." —Scott Gneiser, David Toms caddy to Brian Manzella, after Brian worked with David for a week at the Zurich Classic

If that's true Jim than NO amateur should be playing that ball, at least 99.2% of them. They built that ball for 1 person and only 1.

Holy crap, that's exciting. Good luck on your venture and make damn sure you show us a video at a lighter weight.
