We were told by some folks that just test equipment and balls all day everyday, that trackman is by far the best and flightscope was 3rd best. BTW these people own every measuring device available. They ranked them all in order.

Thanks Tom..Ive heard the same from a buddy of mine in the government that works in AFRL(AF research labratory) that is a golf geek and has looked over all the data and tested it all and has come up with the same results. The AF has some really sweet technology that can track it a little more precise...divot/grass/jet or not. The machine probably costs about 15 mil though...still pretty cool what it can do with tracking missiles...Ive seen it in action...way cool.

I have all the numbers from the trackman day and i'll bring them with me when i have the flightscope day. I'll be able to compare the numbers with the same player and see what I see. The only thing I really care about is helping my students get better. I had been saying for months how good trackman was from everything I had read and until the other day, I had never heard it only picks up club data on 1/2 the swings off grass. To me, that is critical info because I teach mainly outdoors and wish to continue doing so. I don't know if anyone has seen that info. talked about somewhere else but I hadn't.

The trackman rep I talked to said they were working on trying to make club delivery data better for irons and I believe him. If I get one and that update comes after the first year, now I'm spending more for what I really wanted in the first place.

If it turns out that Brian or the moderators don't want me posting the flightscope results that will be fine and I understand. Afterall they did just purchase two trackmans and they don't want some jamoke telling people it doesn't work as well as they would like.

The funny thing about the members on this site is that they seek out info and I see them all over the internet. The information will get found. I just thought that this was the best place to put it because this is most informed group of people I run into.

Did they tell you why?

I'm just curious if it's an accuracy thing or a lack of measured data issue.

For some reaon the subject of "Trackman vs. Flightscope" has been closed on here, your going to have to search other websites to get the comparison.

Hi Tom-

What is their view of the Zelocity monitor? It's around $4k.

I'll let Brian (if he thinks he should) tell why trackman is the best. We didn't say the others were garbage, just that trackman is The Best. There are a lot of great players on tour but Tiger is The Best.

I have no doubt that trackman is the best. It's just not as good as i thought it would be in picking up data only. I have full faith in the data and think it's a great device. I was just surprised that a person needed to hit so many balls to get enough data with short and mid-irons.

The trackman devices that I have been on and watched work almost never had a problem gathering the data. maybe it's a set up issue. I know the window that it looks at isn't very big. BTW I hit all clubs off of grass and it didn't miss a shot (wish I could say the same).

Tom-

Whether or not Trackman is the best is not the issue: I have never heard anyone in the industry say it wasn't the best: it has the most powerful radars, so it ought to be; that's why it costs so much. The problem is, I can't afford it; it is not an option. A Zelocity at $4k is a stretch, but, if it is a reasonable performer, I'd consider it, particularly if I could get a few buddies to chip in. Any help here would be very much appreciated. Giving out this advice, if you have any, will not hurt Trackman sales, I can assure you.

Thanks.

Jeff

I've used zelocity's before and have had good results. I can put you in touch with someone who can answer some questions about it for you. PM me for it.

I had 5 lessons today that I used Trackman for including a practice session myself. Here's the deal, straight from experience and the rep from Trackman. All my players were able to get data from their iron swings.....except when they took a divot larger than normal. All I did was buy a small piece of turf so if it didnt gather data 2 swings in a row, I calmly explained the issue and they struck a few off the mat with no problem. I advise using the tightest turf you can and if the player is a digger, lay down a piece of turf.

As long as you're happy with that. Congrats on doing 5 trackmans. Awesome.

You seem intent on discrediting Trackman for some reason. Its no big deal to anyone if you're not goint to buy it. I'm just saying its the greatest thing ive ever seen in golf by far and have had nothing but amazing results with it. Also, I'll bet Flightscope is pretty good, too. So buy that one if you're worried about the price and data collecting. I really dont know the difference between them. There are very few people i trust and they said Trackman is the best so thats what we went with. I'm ecststic with the results. Putting a piece of turf down for a few swings doesnt seem like a big deal. There are sooo many things you can use it for that dont even require club data like approach tests, spin, driver fittings, etc.

TrackMan is great...so why would ANYONE knock it?

Well, the device is $28,000, plus $300 a month for support.

And...

That's pretty much it.

Will there be something better one day?

Absolutely.

Will there be something as good, or better, and much cheaper?

Probably.

In the meantime, it is the undisputed #1 most important invention in golf since the steel shaft.

Period.
