Tumbling and Connection

Double tumble....hmm. I always believe that any shaft, that comes out of transition steep, changes things. Those coming from laid off after transition have some margin for error. In order to be optimal in use of the club, I always have felt the anything steep coming out of the transition requires 2 moves to impact (Carl Peterson) v.s. one (Price). Again, that's if you want minimal downward hit with forward lean, which to me is optimal. Like I have said before, you can take a steep shaft coming out of transition with a stronger grip and drive it, backing up the whole way through the ball to the left and be great.

When I watch his swing, I see a well timed backed up shaft with a decent pivot to control low point and probably 6* AoA. There is a reason he could not draw the ball at the Masters. It's obviously a world class move to hit backed up drag fades. I mean no disrespect by that either. His ball flight looks good to me. I have my preferences like anyone else and that ain't it.

What about Kaymer's right shoulder? Is that a shoulder tumble?

That would certainly explain the relatively steep angle of attack and the fact that Martin swings left as well as anyone in the world. There is absolutely nothing in his swing that screams "draw."

It's exactly why Kaymer went into a slump after winning in Dubia by 8 shots and proclaiming he was going to add the draw to his game...he found out that goal required waaaay too much change. He looks decent now but he isn't as good as he was pre-draw attempt. I figure he'll be in his old A+ plane by the US Open.

Even though Tumble is touted as something to help fix Underplaners, isn't it also essentially a great cure for a back up the hips, club and hands out, back up the shaft, OTT'er?

More particularly, isn't the fix for a guy like that (me) to feel as if you stay closed for as long as possible and swing up to the "one last point" as Brian describes in his "Tumble and VSP" video? Can't that only really be acheived if you tumble it out to the ball with a more downward hand path, to essentially acheive the polar opposite of the OTT move?

Excellent post. I agree.
