U.S Open picks

A guy at the golf store down here said he heard an interview with Curtis Strange. Strange had followed Tiger around one practice round. They asked Strange what he though Tiger's chances were based off what he saw. He supposedly said "none." Now I didn't see that interview 1st hand, so take it for what it's worth...

Yeah but who cares what Curtis Strange thinks. :D

If he could do what Tiger can do, he would of done it. If he could think the way Tiger thinks, he would of thought it. Curtis Strange doesn't have the true heart of a champion.

Champions are not the type of person to take discouragement in adversity, but use it as a vessel to channel themselves and spur them on to even greater things. I think he will be ready and there is a huge difference between practice and the real thing. Under the gun he is the best alive, he gets better the larger the stage.

Even after seeing his swing I'm still saying Tiger. After the last few rounds with his wedges around the greens, he's probably been working them and the driver non-stop since The Masters.

He still has THE BEST swing on tour. Even the best swings come into trouble spots and Tiger has been working diligently to get out of this one.

I agree, last time I checked Brian Gay was living the dream of 99.9% of us on this forum and is a millionaire. Scope is obviously still holding a grudge. Get over it bro.

+7 over for the first day :D

I just think for someone using such 'superior alignments' he's not doing so well. Perhaps he should do some 'Macdonald drills'.

Good on him for being honest.

Poa at the end of the day is pretty average grass to putt on. It grows at different rates, and I can only imagine what it would look like and putt like after a full field(most of them with spikes) have trampled on them.

He looks like he is swinging well... if he putts well tomorrow morning, I'd have a hard time picking against him.

Maybe Ernie would be my other pick at this point.

Fairness

Yes, the question is always asked 'Are the greens/course fair'. IMO this is the wrong question. What the USGA does is introduce more randomness, and therefore luck into the equation. If a top level pro can only hit the spot on the green you need to make par 10% of the time, then it's more a matter of luck than skill.

Oh, I agree with him. I thought the greens looked bad and didn't roll well nor did they hold that well. I saw Dustin Johnson hit a wedge that landed about a foot or two from the cup and take a huge bounce and leave him with almost an impossible birdie putt. Usually guys don't take umbrage with the greens. I love the US Open, but I hate when the USGA starts getting nutty with the course conditions.

All I know is I would love to play in the US Open once, even if it meant missing the cut. But I guess some can do better.
