Common misconception that hitting down creates more spin.

The differential between the face orientation and angle of attack of the sweet spot is what creates spin, the bigger the differential the more spin and the less the smash factor relatively speaking of course.

If you are steep on the ball but have a face that is relatively delofted the ball will just go lower, same spin loft just lower trajectory

Your AOA is way too steep; especially with the tell tale sign of shanking and giant divots. More than likely that very steep AOA is pushing the path too right compares to your path/face and it's making them go left.
 
ok, it's because I have strong grip, i neutral the grip a little. Goes high and straight again for the last 2 rounds. No giant divots. I can swing as left as I want and not fear going to left.

My god this feel so good.
 
he could have easily stuffed that shot. the circumstances were what caused him to screw up. most guys on tour advocate weakening the grip for shots around the green. less knifey, if that's a word
