What is Tiger's problem with his driving?

Would Scott Hoch--with his steep backswing-- be considered "carrying" on the BS?
Is he a fader of the ball?

It's very obvious that NONE of you play to a level that could actually place in a Professional level tournament. Tiger is not "in" enough for what? Scott Hoch "carries" the club too much to eliminate him from what? WHAT? WHAT? WHAT?

Scott Hoch carrys the club (lifts it) too high on the back swing to be a drawer of the golf ball. Tiger lifts as does Davis love on the backswing from about waist high back more than the plane goes in. All these players are on plane with solid swings. The point is Tiger is having problems driving because of his fade/lift/not going inside enought in the backswing, scott hoch hits his fade great because thats what he tries to do. Many of the people posting have played in professional tournaments or still do. They are just critiquing swings because none are perfect! and most important if they are perfect they would only be perfect in applying the variations they choose to use.

I accept your rationale from your perspective, however it's not the pervasive perspective that is evidenced on this, or any of the other forums.

Instead of trying to identify what is "wrong" or deficient in any of these world class player's procedures, I would just like us to attempt to explain why their variations work so well. I am both envious and appreciative of their genius and I take offense in any opinion or observation that denegrates their talent. This is a HARD game, and to perform it at a high level deserves analysis from a positive perspective as opposed to a negative one...that's all.

No one is degrading their incredible talent. Everyone is trying to figure out how they can be better. I told Tiger Woods you could improve him he would be ecstatic. He changed his whole swing in 1998 because of flaws. Everyone analyzes their swings to learn what they do right, but since Tiger's driving is down people want to know why. A lot of people in this forum are very familiar with The Golfing Machine and that is why they point out variations causing problems. I agree you should point out all Tigers terrific points which are most in his swing but I think everyone knows his incredible clubhead speed, flat left wrist, straight inclined plane line, etc.... and Scott Hoch is definitely a fader watch him on TV and watch his ball flight. Watch his swing plane? It would be pretty hard to hit draws from the plane/alignments he puts his club in.

You don't GET IT!

He (and you and me) can be BETTER!!!!

I have devoted my entire professional life to getting people better.

Get it?

Ideally, a golfer would be more "IN". It doesn't work for a lot of people, though
They might play well for a couple of weeks, and then totally lose it--they start to bring it too in, it might get stuck behind them, or sometimes, they start the downswing by pushing it outside.
One of the things that they try is to feel like the club is more in front of them on the backswing. It allows them to get the club in the right place on the downswing for either their fade or draw.
I've personally seen 2 current PGA Tour Pros practice and talk about this during their lessons.

Brian, when they do this, they seem to play really well for at least a few weeks and have even contended during that time. Eventually, they start bringing it inside again (if they're too lazy to monitor it on their own). Do you see anything wrong with it?

Day one of the PGA Tiger shot 74 is 8 off the pace and hit 5 out of 15 fairways. It is not the Nike driver he was using the old Titleist. Is this an off day or has the guy got real problems with his swing? What do you think Brian and others?

Hue:

I think the swing may be abit awry...as we see in every tournament, Tiger does not tee off with his driver on every hole. Usually you'll see many 3-woods and 2-irons. If he missed that many fairways, I'd think he is a bit off (at least today). The old driver may be a mental thing for a few weeks, but ultimately will not hide the true swing flaws.

Brian: In the right hands would it take a long time to fix him? How many things do you think he needs to fix? If he has split with Butch are there rumours of who he is going to work with?

1 session, maybe 2 hours, and I would have him hitting it (and understanding it) so good, he might not lose for a while.

He really doesn't know what he is doing. He is very smart and would take the infomation, the RIGHT information, and be even better.

He won't get it from the "Trobleshooters".

I'm know you are right, Brian. There is an old Bossa-Nova tune called Desafinado, which is portugese for slightly out of tune. And that's what Tiger looks like.
