Just wondering what would be the advantages of having a set of club fitted as compared to buying a set off the shelf. Would it fix ball flight problem or give the player a better distance?
Any input or comment is much appreciated.
One thing to keep in mind is if you are in the process of making or planning on making a swing change I would not get fitted till the swing change is completed.
Brian what is the approx. cost to get fitted by a top notch fitter like Cool Clubs (or someone similar)? I have been told I could get fit for the whole set for $100.
I have always wanted to get fitted, but had concerns over if it would be worth it. If I could improve 2 shots a side I would definitely do it!!!
I have worked in the golf club business for many years and have seen alot. You can get a set of clubs static fit to you pretty easy by following some simple measurements but if you want to truly get a custom fit you need to see a GOOD fitter and your probably not going to get that at a box store or even at alot of golf clubs. To really get a good fit your going to need a repeating swing though, so if your just starting out I would recommend a static fit set of clubs and when you find a swing that you can repeat take your clubs to a good fitter and have them tweaked or replaced. If you already have a repeatable swing find a good fitter first.
Since the subject is asking what the advantage of club fitting would be, may I suggest you go to two places to find your answer.
First: Go to the International Clubmaker's Guild and look for a clubmaker near you. The members of the Guild will work hard to provide clubs that will help your game. Most "big box" stores will sell you what they have on the shelf and will use the launch monitor to charge you more. Perhaps I should tell you that I am a little biased towards the Guild, I'm on the Board of Directors. You will find the Guild members well trained and knowledgeable and you will not be taken.
Second: Go to the top head and shaft designer in the world.... Tom Wishon. He has several books out that will answer all your equipment questions. He has a little book that I give to all my customers entitled: "12 Myths that could wreck your golf game. Trust me, you can't get better information.
I would upload here a Power Point presentation of Tom's 12 myths but I couldn't figure how to do it.
Also, I think I've made this offer before to all of Brians forum members, anyone in the Western Massachusetts area can come to Longhi's par 3/4 golf course and I'll do a free fitting and give you a copy of Tom's book. I am a Certified Class A Clubmaker.
