When can the left wrist break?

Hi Brian!

I am working hard as h*ll with keeping the left wrist flat. (Hmm, I'm a leftie, so really, in my case it's the right wrist...)

With chipping and pitching i think it works fine, but when I speed up to a normal swing the trouble begins. Yes, I think I can hold my (front hand) wrist flat, but I think not for as long as I should. I notice that it breaks down at some point - it looks like it's after impact, but I suspect the break down happens too early. I just don't percept it quick enough.

I kept working on this last evening at the range with slow tempo, but no - the wrist breaks down too early. I tried to, like reach further out - stretch out my arms to prevent this from happening. Nope... I understand that the wrist has to break down at some point, but when.

Brian, do you have any tips on how to solve this and maybe a drill. A checkpoint? Perhaps explain in a video?

Thanks.

I am 50 and have a pretty bad back... (hernia) Yes, I know, go to the gym and strengthen my muscles is a good way to start - because it's vital to have some amount of flexibility to perform a good swing. Dooh. Everybody knows that.
So Brian, for us that are less flexible. Some help?

When the left wrist should bend....

I think I can hold my (front hand) wrist flat...

You should NEVER hold your left wrist flat.

It should get there by WAY of movement.

It should bend whenever it bends.

Bending it after impact is NOT a flaw, it is a result of numerous other factors.

If yours if flat at impact, work on the next problem.

Hmm, there is no confusion here, ey? I mean, since I'm a leftie?
(In my case a flat left wrist is my right.)

Ok, you mean, if I make an impact fix, the wrist gets flat by the movement from the address position. Maybe this is a bad example, but in miniature..?

Oki, so I bought the NSA2 and that explained a lot of things. The part with the arched left wrist all the way is sensational stuff for me.
Brian, that instructional video isn't really only just for slicers. It's as much for people like me, hitting powerless shots with, that's right, power leakage.

When I saw you do that move in the through swing, I thought, at first, no,,, you're kidding. That's an impossible move! But wow, it is possible! Can't wait to go out to the range and also hit some balls tomorrow. Forecast says rain all day here in southern Sweden, but that won't stop me.

Now I think I will get somewhere with this game. It might be, not just number ninehundredsixtythird aha experience in golf. =)

Brian, if the left wrist is flat at impact but bends before full extension, what is the remedy?

By full extension you mean full extension of the arms? It's not necessarily a problem if it bends before then. Tell me what kind of shot the player in question is trying to hit and then we can decide if its a problem.

Holeout, we're talking 6-iron, full swing. At impact, arm and clubshaft form a straight line, flat left wrist. But just past impact the wrist breaks down before club is back to waist level.
