This is becoming painful. You are both behaving more immaturely than grade school children. you should both be ashamed at your behavior. Your ugly exchange provides no real value to this forum.

You both appear to be intelligent and learned. I only hope that one or both of you can be mature enough to put an end to the silly personal attacks.

You are reducing the value of what is probably the most informative and mature golf instruction forum on the web. Just because the moderator allows you the freedom to carry on this way, doesn't mean that you should.

I keep checking this thread because I don't want to possibly miss any information of value, only to be met with the disappointment of your continued exchange of insults.

You are probably good people in the real world, please start acting that way.

This all reminds me of something I once read on another forum: "Arguing on the internet is like the Special Olympics ... even if you win, you are still a retard".

A bit low-brow, but you get the point.

Thanks.

tank,

Sorry for the inconvenience but nmgolfer’s specific mission in life seems to be to create systematically a persisting nuisance for any of my posts.

However, is all over now with three strikes and hence a definite strikeout. Consequently nmgofler is retreating, perhaps a bit reluctantly, to his Millennium website. ;)

Mandrin... Its clear you are afraid the discuss the errors in your posts and your logic for fear of being further exposed as the poser that some of us know you to be. Instead you twist and turn and try in vain to redirect. You toss out ad homenim insults and litter your posts with stupid little smiley faces... but its all to no avail. Now you've taken to posting cute but stupid little drawings too. Not only does that one above show how childish... how unprofessional you really are, but it also displays your incredible ignorance!

If a golf club shaft is bent, its because its experiencing load. In the golf swing, those loads do not "suddenly disappear" as if a string were plucked or the cord bending it were suddenly cut. The golf shaft doesn't just "snap back" (unless it breaks)... ever. The bend is a response to loads that don't just suddenly disappear. There is no disappearing magic going on mandrin. It amazes me that I need to explain this to someone who claims to be versed in science. It can only mean that you're not versed in science. Tell me mandrin... where did you carry mail? PS I'm glad you like my website and keep advertising it. Could you give the readers the URL too? I'm creating a section I think I'll call "mandrins madness" devoted exclusively to your misconceptions. Carry on now... More material please.

Tank... since you're fond of dispensing advice I'll return the favor. Don't waste your time in this thread or any other containing "color for dummies" graphs and pictures.

I keep checking this thread because I don't want to possibly miss any information of value.

Had a good chuckle at that one Tank....:D

nmgolfer,

You are really quite impressive with the variety and profusion of your ‘complements’ you again are giving me so generously. You really are very kind indeed. Now, if only you had the same expertise in science all would be fine and dandy.

It is quite interesting and actually fascinating that wherever you post on golf forums it seems to follow exactly the same scenario. It is just too bad that people don’t seem to recognize and appreciate instantly the great depth of your scientific insights. I really do sympathize

However, no more beating around the bush. All your pedantic and hair-splitting phrases can’t hide away the fact that you don't even know how to handle a very simple pendulum problem. Give it another try. It realy is not all that difficult. It is high school level. :D

Mandrin, instead of engaging in these " discussions " why don't you present your thoughts to a reputable scientific journal for publication subject to peer review.

Let's count the reasons...

Mandrin, instead of engaging in these " discussions " why don't you present your thoughts to a reputable scientific journal for publication subject to peer review.

hcw says:
Because Scientific journals:
1. Make you identify yourself and give your credentials, while the reviewers get to be anonymous
2. Typically require actual experimental data, not just theoretical musings (and they make you show your methods)
3. There are consequences if you get uppity and insult reviewers who disagree with you

mandrin says:
1. I have no peers!:)

I owe mandrin an apology,

(I'm sure this will later be take out of context and used in his spin attempts but...) technically he is correct. In my original post I should have said "center of percussion" instead of shaft length for the height the mass falls (potential energy). Normally this would not make much difference but remember... mandrin's got you swinging a 12 pound, 1.65 meter long shaft and when you do that, the location of the center of percussion changes drastically... which brings up a good question. Mandrin why don't you just carry a 12 lb sledge hammer around the course with you? Afterall that would be more effective than your "12 lb. noodle shafted club"? Mandrin l bet you are a riot to watch on the course... constantly trying out these "Rube Goldberg" swings and things. :)

I have no peers. So be it. I wonder if a detailed search on the internet would yield the same equations as I see posted in this discussion ???

I don't think this is helping people play better golf

Above is the “opinion” of nmgofler.

“This analysis strikes me as as wrong… just plain wacky wrong” or,

“I could not believe you were making such ridiculous assertions”.

Not very impressive as scientific aguments and actually his opinion shows a lack of at least possessing some minimal knowledge of continuous systems and multibody dynamics.

Now, what is mandrin’s analysis based on?

Strictly on a rigorous mathematical derivation of the governing differential equations for the flexible shaft arrangement, applying Hamilton’s principle and using Lagrangian dynamics.

nmgolfer, you are really in your element, insinuating, twisting, spinning, insulting and making sniding remarks. Perhaps vaguely amusing somewhat for a short while but quickly getting very boring. :(

mandrin

I haven't read most of this thread but Mandrin, let me ask you something. What is your motivation for providing all of this scientific analysis of the golf swing, its components, etc? I don't want this to come across the wrong way because regardless of what my or other people's opinions are it's nice to take a look at things from a different perspective.

However, golfers are not scientists and the information you provide, most of the time, is not helping people play better golf. I see it more as an academic debate. I'm just not sure the golfing community as a whole should be your audience.

Homer was the exception obv.

Also, dying to know what your handicap is!:)
