WD after 9 holes!

Are you serious? Why don't they keep her off the course until she's healed? She's not Willis Reed; there's no reason to play hurt. She has a big contract, so money isn't an issue. As of right now, she'll still have places to play when she gets better, although the number of places gets smaller the more things like this happen. Heal up. Take a break.

I followed Wie for her first few holes today. Her first three tee shots were high weak fades, each missing the fairway right. She finally hit a nice drive on her fourth attempt, then followed that up by bouncing her approach shot off the grandstands short left. She obviously had no idea where the ball was going. Papa Wie was in her gallery and didn't seem pleased.

Funny, I never saw anything that told me her wrist was an issue. I watched her on the practice range early this morning and saw nothing funny with the wrist. I don't believe it was even wrapped.

Brian...have you took a look and Angela Park and Any Hung's swings? Look pretty sweet to me. Angela's really rolling the rock at the moment. Hope it holds up for 27 more holes...

Forcing a pattern

Brian (and other teachers):

Two years ago I though Michelle Wie had one of the top swings in golf, last year though she played well I thought her swing was getting worse and this year she is playing terribly and swinging nothing like the Big Wiesy.

If working with high a level player and get him (her) into "better" position or pattern, only to watch their ball striking and game suffer? Do you tell them to keep at it, eventually your going to be much better than you are now? Or do you back off and let the play return to their more normal pattern of swinging.

Leadbetter has too big a head to admit it's him or his pattern. What I'm wondering is this man destroying her career? I'm sure the swing can be revived by someone but what's this doing to her mind? I'm not a fan of hers but it is a bit sad to see this unfold before our eyes and what will this do to HIS reputation. I'm sure he'll say she didn't put the work in or some other lame ass excuse. This is what you have when the smoke clears and the mirror shatters:)

I make mistakes all the time.

But, I make them 100's of times less frequently nowdays.

I would admit I was wrong, and go back to what worked.

Period.

How long would it take you to go from, "you're not hitting it well because you're not doing what I'm telling you", to "let's go back to what you were doing"?

No such thing as a bad student, just a bad teacher.

"You're not hitting it well because you're not doing what I'm telling you."

Sounds like someone selling a pattern.

I don't EVER say that anymore‚ last time was years ago.

It is YOUR JOB as a REAL TEACHER, to FIGURE OUT A WAY to get to ANY student.

I tell folks all the time, "Forget about what I just said, what I should have said was..."

It's not that simple. Her sponsors pay her a ton of money and aren't going to sit back while she decides not to play. There's alot more pressure put on her (and all pros really) than meets the eye.

Pressure?

Pressure?

Michelle Wie?

Come on. If she's smart, she CAN'T SPEND all the money she has made.

Hey Papa Wie! Just bring her to me in a "secret" location. I'll fix her for my normal rate, and we won't tell anyone.

It'll take about a half-day, and then we can go to lunch.

I understand that. I have a cousin who was a professional athlete, and who was hurt a lot, and played hurt a lot; I know that there's a lot more that goes on behind the scenes than we see. While I'm not sure of the particulars of MW's Nike contract, nobody pays her more than Nike, and I'm fairly sure that Nike isn't paying her by the tournament. She's their investment; I'm sure that she's not helping them by playing like this, and that they'd be set back even more if she reinjured her wrist in such a way that her career was threatened. I really believe that the reason that she's come back as quickly as she has was because SHE wanted to get back out there, not because someone else is pressuring her to play hurt, which is understandable. She's young, and she's an athlete. I'm not blaming her; I've been there (though not with as much at stake, obviously). She's got so much golf ahead of her, that I really feel she'd be better served to allow this thing to fully heal. I think that, otherwise, she has the potential to really damage herself and her reputation.
