The Ultimate "Best swings of all time" thread

People talk about the best swings of all time. But, is the best swing for Tiger or Hogan necessarily the best swing for you? First, there are so many different body types. There are tall guys, short guys. Guys with short legs, guys with thick trunks, etc. The list goes on. Even taking into...

Swing harder => Shift to shallower plane?

Brian talking about Sergio's swing: Why? Would someone who's a natural single shifter (or someone who uses and stays on the TSP on the downstroke) also exhibit this tendency to shift to a shallower plane when trying to hit it harder?

Left arm staying with left chest

Brian and others: How can you get a player to have their left arm going with their left chest as the left shoulder moves up and in after impact (just like Bartlett and Hogan)? In other words, how can you stop the left arm from swinging across the chest too early? Thanks!

hands go left, clubhead goes right

I have noticed that from the overhead camera angle of good players that during release, their hands go slightly to left field, but clubhead goes to right field as it approaches the ball. How do they achieve this? Is this "orthodox"?

    Shoulder turn and arm swing

"Ideally, you want your armswing to stop once your shoulder turn has been completed, so your armswing and your trunk are in-sync" Is there any validity to this statement?

    why is ernie so smooth?

I finally figured this out! Why are players like Ernie, Mike Finney, Fred Couples, etc. so damn smooth and rhythmic? Because they need to be! And why are some other great ball strikers such as Tiger, Tom Bartlett and Lee Trevino not so smooth looking? Because they don't need to be!

Timing - what does it mean?

What does it mean when someone says one swing is less dependent on timing compared to another? Here's one possible interpretation: "each swing that brings the clubface square to the swing arc earlier than in impact zone is less timing&tempo-dependent". What do you guys think? Could there by...

    Tiger still with Haney

"Contrary to rumors, I have not split with Hank Haney, my friend and swing coach. He's spent more time at home helping his wife deal with health issues, which is the way it should be. Besides, I've become much better at correcting my swing flaws, and that's ultimately where you want to get to...

    A nice useful gadget

Bridgestone Science Eye Personal Launch Monitor Can measure clubhead speed, carry and roll. It also tells you whether you're swing inside-out or outside-in or straight. But unfortunately, it doesn't tell you how many degrees inside-out or outside-in. Since it's pretty much impossible to have...
