teach him 12 5 -0 lol, only joking!

Teach him that the hosel rotates around the sweet spot and that we are not swinging a baseball bat ( like Vijay and Mickelson) its like a water bottle the label rotates around the mouth.

Aiming point and plane line. Tell him to get his right forearm on plane, axis tilt and hit the inside aft quadrant.

Needs axis tilt and to swing out to the right instead of over the top.

Brian, do you have to keep reminding me of what happened when i first came to see you? ;)

lol....maybe i should just find the initial "report post" and post it in here.

Everyone could use it as a "cheat sheet" lmao.

Still nobody wants to know what the guy wants?

Wow, I am amazed.

First thing my AI asks me. What are your goals?

I am mildly alarmed.

pinisi, good point made but I think we assume he wants a quick fix like about 90% of folks out there. Even the ones that say they want to do the work still in the main are lying and want a quick fix!

student comes to me...i play 3 times a week and practice 4 and play to a 10 handi...

Jim now translates said golf speak into english:

I really only play 3 times a month, practice 20 min before each round and play to a 22 handi.

Well, to cite a sample... the driving range where my AI teaches sells sets of lessons with discounts on 'bulk' purchases. Buy 5 get the sixth free.

Just a comment on why the industry is a little chaotic. I know it's usually a hard sell. And even though an AI might have all the answers, it doesn't mean the lesson will go anywhere. I know I know... you know this dilemma more than I.

FYI - I have started to work with Peter Knight GSEM at Macquarie Driving range in Sydney. Peter is the head of golf at NSW Insitute of Sport. Do you know Peter?

Sure I do Peter is a good guy. He came to our G.O.L.F. school with Bobby Schaeffer and Ben Doyle in Sydney last April and loved it. I havent spoken to Pete for a few months but I think he may come and work with us again with Gregg McHatton, Billy McKinney and Bobby again at St. Michaels in Jan. Your are in good hands 'ping man'.

ping....

Did you read the thread starting post?

"...he has a weak left hand grip/ poor right hand grip/ leans left at address/ right hip much higher than the left/ shoulders WAY open right forearm very high/ very, very cupped left wrist at the top/ way above plane/ total leakage/ vertical hinge action/ reverse pivot...

..what do you do first?"

I need an INTERVIEW to ask THIS GUY what he wants????

Brian, Dr. Gary Stein would interview him but Ben Doyle sometimes doesnt even ask his students their name he just takes them right into his sand trap.

Brian, I read it. Over and over again.

As a student, I would like to be consulted as to what we might work on together. No interview. You can tell what's wrong with my swing anyway. I don't need to tell you. But I can inform you as to what I can manage. And would like to do.

No sweat. Just how I go about training people... not swings but teaching anything has similar concepts across the board. The more you know about an individual (and you know this already) the more success he/she might have. I'd hate to think as a student I would be automatically categorised without even taking stock.

Edit: not trying to criticise, just expressing an opinion. I thought you'd hire me on the spot because I cared beyond the swing! ;)

I've found that with beginner/average golfers who have the problems that Brian outlines in this thread, one of the real challenges is limiting the amount of information you provide and things you ask the person to do.

A grip change doesn't come quickly for most. A setup change takes time as well. Angle of attack through impact is another biggy. I've found it helpful to have people take several baseball swings - waist level back and through.

The hard part is holding the student accountable for just these basic fundamentals and resisting the temptation to run before they've learned to crawl or walk. Most hackers can't take their 9-iron out and hit the ball 100 yards solidly. First things first.

Wallaceja, youre right, I would say most peoples brains are so A.D.D. and screwed up they need to learn how to learn before anything else, they are terrible students and we as pros have to sneek the information in somehow and keep them coming back not running when the going gets a little tough..

Terrible students . . . that's the problem?
