Well, this may not be a manly topic! [:p]I look around and do not see much talk about the best female golfer. Maybe one of the best golfers man or women ever as well. Why is it that someone like Annika does not get much type on her swing. She is so accurate and pretty sneaky long too. Most all would benefit by learning what it is she does well.

Okay TGM guru's lets give Annika some type, what is it about her swing that makes most look like they never picked up a club?

Just how good is this swing?

When she played in the Colonial (or w/e it was) some of the guys were saying her ballstriking was really really good. I just remember them being impressed.

She must be doing something right to be playing how she's playing.

Here's a sequence for the thread:

Anyone have front shots of Annika? She stay's pretty darn level through out her swing. Not much tilt. It goes to show you can be pretty good without it.

I have slo-mo video of Annika if someone wants to host it. Both face on and down the line. Also, granted she doesn't have a ton of tilt, there is still the required amount of tilt (around 30* or so with a driver) in my clip.

This is a great topic as Annika has a very repeatable/reliable swing. Seems to me she has a very compact swing with an emphasis on body rotation. Any gurus out there have a more indepth ananlysis?

Anyone know who her teacher is?

Her swing coach since she was a teenager has been Henri Reis, one of Sweden's top teachers. Her "mental" coach is Pia Nilsson.

According to Non-Authorized Pia is a Machinist . . . hmm...

Pia has written a new book that is very good by the way. Check it out it's a quick read and has some good ideas on playing the game and practicing. Actually one of the better "mental" books I have read. It's called Every Shot Has a Purpose. Very good.

Annika plays like a machine, indeed. Unique pattern..very much a Swinger, but has some
Hitter characteristics..punch basic, angled hingeing. Switter?
How about that great head release? Can't get ball bound like that. I believe
one develops that by learning without a ball. It seems like everyone's practice
swing does that.
Not much extensor action (Cal Peete, Lanny, Westwood, Ed Furgol..) but good
conservation of angular momentum.
No leftarmstraightheaddownexplaining there.
And she obviously has premier inner timing like the real greats.

Okay, Now were getting started, lets keep it going, she is that good and it would be only right that we tapp that swing. Is it better than Tigers, etc? I believe so.

If anyone could host Jim 0068 front view of Annika, I think it would be great.

Is this one swing all can do? It sure would take care of ball bound players, and heck it would make anyone better.

Anyone read her book?

Victor

Addition to this topic. If one was to start out and learn this swing, what would anyone recommend? The more I look at this swing the more I like it.

Machine!!!! Cdog mentioned that. Well that is what Homer had in mind, did he not?

she has outstanding balance and Ernest Jones would appreciate her Rhythm, most certainly.

She uses the 'swinging force' far better than most. It is easy to see when watching her that the "ball gets in the way" of her motion. No adjustments for impact, no "doing" just SWING.

She supports the on plane swinging force in balance.

....and if she actually uses an Angled Hinge (not sure yet)....

....interesting that she would use it with such a smooth swing.

....

Horizontal Hinge: "the natural result of a pure swing."

Pia is an Old School GSEM ...I think?
Yes. She was one of the original female AI's. I think that Reis should be given the credit for her swing while Pia should be given credit mainly for the mental side - setting goals and such. Henri Reis has been her coach since her teens, i.e. before Pia came into the picture as the national team coach.

Henri Reis is launching Annika's Academy in Orlando early next year. I think he is moving there himself. He has acknowledeged that in interviews, but I haven't seen the announcement yet. Until now (and for many years) he's been the head instructor at a very small and rather remote place in Sweden (a place called Karlstad).

I have no clue about Henri Reis.

I would say that her swing would rival Tiger's. But I guess it depends on what is trying to be accomplished. Have you seen her driving/GIR stats? Un-freakin-real!!!! She basically hits every fairway and every green. On the other hand, all the dudes on the PGA tour seem to care less about hitting the fairway these days. It's all about POWER.

But with Annika it's gotta be more than just the swing (as well as Tiger). She wants it more, she's mentally tough, she loves the journey, her goals are HUGE. That's what that "golf54" stuff is all about. It's not whether you ACTUALLY shoot a 54, but it's all about a MINDSET and BELIEF.

That's her edge. Example look at what she has done to her body . . . she's like the incredible Hulk. The Wei kid may have more talent than her, but I don't see her being as mentally tough . . . at least not yet.

Agreed....Annika's secret is her approach....Vision 54...her swing is very, very good...my only knock is ....I despise .....when the eyes flash too early ....her head and neck rotation too early....this can and does result into "bad stuff" for most players...she's fortunate that she's focused...

Bad Stuff...Would you teach looking into the follow-through before impact...Go try it yourself....For a lotta players it will lead to "Anticipatory Anxiety...ie.."THE YIPS"...

I like Mr. Haney...but I would never admit I have Driver Yips....And if I'm the world's#1 who is struggling with my Driver why would I seek this guys help?????Other than the fact my best friend works with the guy...Gee Wiz

And He's still crooked ofthe Tee...That tells me that they haven't quite figured it out!!!!

BTW Hank is a great coach...just find it an interesting COMBO!!!!!

Back to annika

Other than that She's as solid as a Diamond!!!!!!!

NAT

But if he's had experience with the yips you might also say he knows more about what it's like than most other teachers....additional experience to relate to the student's situation....additional knowledge.

.....

EH!?! EH!?? ;)
