Jefy, that has been my experience as well. One lesson I have learned from doing various Balance drills, including the blue vinyl balance pads you mentioned, is that as soon as you begin to lose your balance even a tiny bit, your brain (subconscious) will instantly send messages to your body to correct that imbalance, which almost always resutlts in bad mechanics and/or timing. Balance is the default position of your brain - executing a good golf swing is always secondary to that. Or as George Knudson often said "Never do anything in your golf swing to compromise your balance". Easier said than done, I admit.
