This is a sequence of Lee trevino when he hit it "as good as he ever did."

The first two years on the Senior Tour.

Here it is:

Best swing ever?

Flat out the best Brian?

Best imparatives maybe (prolly at least a 3 way tie tho no?)...but Hogan had more speed, no?

Was his plane line a little bent, or at least did it take him a long time to get on plane in the downswing (too flat early)? Don't get me wrong, if there was anything wrong with his swing I'd love to have the same things in common.

Lag monster!

Look at that loaded shaft

He does a loopy move from top to downswing which I kinda dig too.

Don't know if I'd consider it among the best "swings" ever tho. Efficient-ya, aesthetically-so so.

I gotta give this the EMPHATIC YES!!!

The dude's head moved all over the place . . . SO WHAT.

The pivot is sooooo good. Check the knee action, axis tilt, how he's using the ground, the hands don't flop around as a result the club is loaded WAY up with LAG. The hips don't spin all over the place . . . the knees got the SHEEP DAWG THANG goin' on.

I think the head moving DOWN may actually make this pivot more dynamic ala Eldrick . . . Like Jordan fixin' to RAISE up and dunk on Pat Ewings head.

I like the grip eliminates all the need for start up and release swivel . . . it's turned to the plane and stays that way . . . eliminates variables.

This move skinned the cat as good as anybody . . .

Nope . . . Plane Shift . . . and using the Open alignment and possibly the 10-5-E plane line . . . Angle of Approach (cross line).

How can you judge a golfswing from one view?...Let's put the down the line sequence in there as well!!!!...Yes..He had the best Reverse Loop Shift ever...as he got older it got larger!!!! So if he was the best...Let's all Reverse Loop Shift!!!!!:D

Lee's knee looks kicked in a bit like Hogan at address.....or was this after a forward press?

A good case can be made for Sam Snead.
A record 82 PGA titles.
Winning PGA Tour (not Senior tour) events in 5 decades

Snead was never noted for his short game.

I was paired with Lee Buck twice during my 6 on and off years on the Sr PGA Tour. If you want to judge his swing during the 'impact interval' - he is certainly right at the top. Certainly not as asthetic as many other in the overall appearance.

Lee was (and I would still guess is) a consumate striker of the ball. I saw him hit a shot on the 9th hole at Meadowbrook (L.I. NY) that was most impressive. Hanging lie (ball good 6 to 8 inches below his feet) on bare lie in the left rough - 210 to 220 to a back left pin with a 'redan' green (angled a 45* degree from front right to back left). He hit a little low 5 wood hook that started well to the right of the opening, curved in late and ran up the length of the green.

Even on a good day if I try that shot from a hanging lie, I either pull it left or leave it way right.

Lees transition

What must be missing from looking at the stationary pictures is to get the increase in lag and wrist angle on the downswing he must be float loading and starting his lower body before the completion of the swing or the loop he is taking helps create that action. I also thought Lee had much more hip slide but that might have been his earlier days.Interesting enough Bobby Schaeffer has a tape on Lees swing and identifies the values of the looping swing especially aiming left and swinging right. Similar to what Tomasello said it is easier to maintain the bent right wrist if you swing inside out to right field.

A final thought, many of the top players are sitting down or bobbing down on the downswing. I am not one of those good players but I also do that. Should the head bobbing section in the Golf Machine be eliminated or clarified? I know one thing for sure when I work hard on the flipper video it is easy to do when you really go after the ball and then divot.

I would think that the "best swing ever" would have to combine distance and accuracy. Being a true ballstriker was cool 10-20 years ago, but in todays day being able to slide the ball left, right, up, and down isn't as important as launching it far and having a great short game to take advantage of your length.

I have to say that Tiger Woods combine both length and accuracy (driver smiver!) better than anyone. Ben Hogan and Lee Buck are cool relics of the past, but I doubt either one would want to face Tiger on a Sunday evening with his red shirt and game face on.
