Best Swing Ever?

Trevino's ball flight and grip

Tom, is it true that Lee played a push cut type shot most the time?

Brian, what have you got to say about the fact that "the best swing of all time" doesn't use a "Manzella neutral" grip (matching left wrist and leading edge)?

Dongzilla . . . Grip don't matter so long as it complies with . . .the Law of the Flail . . . Buck hit anyshot anytime anywhere.

Sometimes I watch all star golf on the golf channel and snead is always playing and he use to drive it like 270 most the time but sometimes he would crank it up and hit it over 300!

These days you get at least 10 extra yards roll on TOUR CUT fairways, because they cut them so tight!

HA! 10 yards?

You ever play on a nationwide or PGA course right before/after a tournament? You should if you haven't you'd be surprised how much further your ball is down the fairway than what you are used too ;)

I played Bay Hill the day after a huge down pour, the drainage on that course is so good you would nave never guessed it rained that much, tons of roll, an easy 15+ yards on that day

Surely Tiger has the best swing ever. Im sure you could pick holes in it but I watched him play Hoylake with his irons, hitting em low (2i), high (6i), cut, fade, draw.. you name it .. he doesnt just have one swing, he has about 20 all of which he can rely on dependent on the shot he wants to execute

I played a tour standerd course once and the greens are so so good within 10ft its nearly impossible to miss!

They have there courses set up so good!

You guys are soooo funny....

I was ASKING: Was this swing the best ever?

It WAS the best measured 3 imperatives of all-time, IMHO.

Now the TRULY best?

Hmmm......

The unholy ideal of golfing nirvana.

I'm more interested in results: number of majors, number of wins, and the ability to close. All else is novelty...

So then you're gonna say Jack or Tiger...

So you wouldn't say they could improve?

By all accounts (including Jack....who I've read was pretty adamant about it) neither Jack or Tiger have gotten to Hogan's level...

I would think that the "best swing ever" would have to combine distance and accuracy. Being a true ballstriker was cool 10-20 years ago, but in todays day being able to slide the ball left, right, up, and down isn't as important as launching it far and having a great short game to take advantage of your length.

I have to say that Tiger Woods combine both length and accuracy (driver smiver!) better than anyone. Ben Hogan and Lee Buck are cool relics of the past, but I doubt either one would want to face Tiger on a Sunday evening with his red shirt and game face on.

To the contrary, Hogan sought out the best golfers. He actively wanted to play with Nicklaus even when he (BH) was past his prime. Ditto for Trevino, etc.

With vastly improved equipment, ball and courses, I think Hogan would have have given TW great competition, probably winning against him more than say, VJ does or has.

What about Trevino's grip.

so are you going to say anything regarding my question Brian?

First of all, it was strong, but not THAT strong.

Look at the photos from the down-the-line view, his "back-of-left-hand —to— clubface" relationship wasn't that far out of neutral.

Even so, it wasn't NEUTRAL, but, so what?

I can hit it just fine with a strong grip, but for me, I hit it better, and have more shotmaking flexibility with MY grip.

Slicers and Hackers and some better players improve faster with a neutral grip.

Some don't.

It WILL make you learn some form of angled hinge motion, and that may be why ex-hookers love it.

This is a thread on "best swing ever." There is a helluva lot more to winning tournaments than having a great swing. Realistically one could consider George Knudson to have the best swing ever, in spite of never winning a major, or Bill Melhorn. Here you go Bill, best swing, worst putter of all-time. In such a circumstance it wouldn't be amazing to consider that such a bad putter would not win a bunch of majors.

Tiger and Jack have achieved more than Hogan, so I would say that Hogan isn't on their level.

Best Swing Ever

How about Tom Weiskopf? I remember looking at pictures of his swing and no matter which part of the swing you looked at it seemed to be an ideal. However, for the three imperatives my vote goes to Trevino. A review of his swing is what got me interested in The Golf Machine because TGM could explain why with his "unorthodox" swing he was/is a phenomenal ballstriker.

Yep. Yep. The Law of the Flail rules . . . the relationship of the shaft and the left arm . . . if you got that you satisfy the 1st Imperative regardless of how you grip it.

Good post catdaddy.
